Chapter 5

I ran off to the parking lot terrified. I waited for a minute because I lived so close to school. That ONE minute felt like an hour. I jumped in my moms car once it arrived and she sped off.

"what happened?" I asked nervously

"he had a fever of 103 and then he fainted." she said taking a sharp turn "we took him to the hospital." we sat in silence until we got to the hospital

"there's a spot" I said pointing. My mom quickly parked and we went to josiah's room. When I saw him I was shocked.

He had never looked so weak. He was very pale with an IV in his hand. I went over and gave my dad a hug. Josiah's head tilted up. "hi Cari." he whispered frailly.

"hey Josiah" I replied. Just then the doctor and the nurse came in. The doctor was holding some papers while the nurse was rolling in a covered cart.

"hello there" said the doctor.

" I'm doctor smith."

"what's wrong with him?" my mom asked hesitantly

"he obviously has a high fever. Also he's very dehydrated which is why he's has the IV. The only way to bring down the fever is some shots." the nurse walked up and took from her cart a huge needle.

"he needs needs one on each leg" she said. I couldn't bare to see this.

I walked outside the room. All I heard was a weak yell.

Josh's POV

I was walking over to caridad to say bit she got a phone call. She hung up and ran toward the parking lot. I saw fear in her eyes as she passed by. I went over to chuck. "what happened to cari?"

He shrugged " not sure. I think it was her little bro"

"thanks man." I said

I was so nervous. Ugh I have to to stop myself! I've been trying to fight these weird feelings for years. I tried not to think it to much.

The day went by in a blur. I got home and went straight to my room. My my mom was sleeping and my dad was still at work.. I laid on my bed and let my thoughts finally flow.

Cari's POV

After the two shouts and a few hours, josiah was dismissed from the hospital on a wheel chair. I got a text from Layla. Where are you???

I quickly texted her back. I say in my brothers room all day. We watched movies and tv. At around 3 I got like 20 texts (slight exaggeration) from iris, Layla, chuck. Nate, Jess, and, Laura, but mostly from Josh. Weird right? I replied to all of them and went to help my mom make dinner. After feasting on chicken and baked potatoes I sat down for an hour of tv. Then off to bed I went. I went to sleep an hour early. I fell into a deep restless sleep. My dog woke me up at the usual time. She had an internal clock.

" mornin jada" I said groggily. She replied with some face licks. I got up and grabbed my favorite T-shirt and cardigan. I quickly ironed those andmy favorite jeans. I put them on and brushed my blond hair into a ponytail with my short layers out. I went downstairs and said good morning to everyone. I ate a quick beakfast and finished getting ready. With ten minutes to go before I had to leave I quickly read another chapter of the book I've been reading for a report. I quickly put my contacts in my green eyes and grabbed my bag.

I ran downstairs and said goodbye to everyone. I walked to the bus stop and got on.

"there you are!" iris said scooting over. I sat down.

"you will not believe what I found out!" she said squirming in her seat.

"what?" I asked pretending to be excited.

"Well...JOSH LIKES YOU!" she quietly screamed low enough that only I could here. My eyes bulged, my pulse raced, and my jaw dropped. Then I started cracking up. I laughed so hard I stopped breathing for a good few seconds.

" good one iris" I said whiling a tear from my eye.

"I'm not joking cari." she replied holding up her right hand her left on her chest where her heart is.

I, iris Garcia, solemnly swear to you, caridad Tammy Diaz I am telling you the truth." I felt like screaming.

" no way how'd you find out" I whispered

" he told me."

"when?"

"afte school yesterday"

"wow" I still couldn't believe it.

"I know"
