Chapter 26
Josh's POV
BAM!!!
I jumped up and fell out of my desk. I looked around the class to find strange stares pointed in my direction and abrupt laughter. I turned towards the suspect and narrowed my eyes at her.
" That's the second prank today!" I yelled at Cari. She gave a wide smile and laughed. She's been taking every opportunity to prank me since that one prank last weekend. She already nearly poisoned me with salt in my water bottle. That dang thing just had to be a solid color and not clear.
" I'm on a role! This is allot more fun than when we were in elementary and middle." She reached a hand down and I reached up to grab it. She swiped her hand away and I fell back onto the ground.
" Seriously! I can't trust you anymore." I told her. She just grinned.
" Just get up. I have something for you." She commanded.
" What?" I asked while trying to get up. She grabbed my hand and dragged me to her desk. She propped her backpack against the chair and unzipped it. She handed me a large book.
" What is it?" I asked while examining it. It was wrapped in paper with oriental designs and a large bow on top.
" It's your present. After three years of birthdays gone, Christmases and other shtuff!" She explained. I peeled off the paper and Cari placed the bow on my head with a grin.
It was our photo album. A copy actually because it didn't have a label or heading or anything. I opened to the first page and saw a picture of me instead of a picture of her. I was asleep and my hair was moved away from my face to take the picture. I gave Cari a smile and she started to laugh. The rest were the same. The same can of coke, the same milkshake shop sign, the same Christmas tree, everything was the same.
" Why did you do this?" I asked her.
" I don't want to be the only of us that has record of the time we spent together." She answered.
" Thanks Caridad. This is the best gift ever." I said. I pulled her into a tight hug and ruffled her hair.
The truth is, I don't believe that I'm in love with Caridad anymore. I still have some feelings of course, but none of this can effect our friendship. And it's great to be just friends with her. Better than it would ever have been if we were still dating I'm sure.
" Your so cheesy." She said.
" Well it is the best. I loooooooooooove it." I joked. The teacher shouted above the roar of the class for everyone to take their seats. We all sat down and begin working. Suddenly, a piece of paper flew onto my desk in the form of an paper airplane.
I turned to the teacher who was at her desk, not aware that a note just flew across the room. I unfolded the skillfully made plane and read the writing. Immediately I knew that it was Caridad. Her handwriting was always so neat and connected. Even when she used her right hand, which is difficult since she's a lefty.
"How'd your 'date' with Jess go?" She asked. I gave a laugh and replied to her.
"It wasn't a date. Just two friends going to the mall." I said. I folded it up using the same lines that she had and flew it towards her desk. She caught it and brought it under the desk before the teacher could see it. She read it and then stuck her tongue out at me.
Truth was, I had made Jess watch Paranormal Activity 3 at the mall just to see her yell, but that plan had failed when I was the one to have a near heart attack while she was laughing at everyone's reaction. That girl can take anything you throw at her. She doesn't get mad either. Afterwards, we went to The food court and got hot chocolate, and she drank it the minute she got it while I had to wait for it to cool off after I had burnt my tongue. It's like she's immune or something.
After the reminiscing of Jess and I's 'date', the bell had rung loudly over the speakers. Caridad came to my desk and waited for me to finish packing up my things.
"Ready to go?" She asked. I nodded and grabbed my bag.
All 7 periods had passes and I saw Caridad and Jess in the parking lot. I ran up to them and snuck up behind Jess. Before I could scare her, she turned around and shouted at me, causing me to jump.
"Haha gotcha!" Jess said. She laughed and I caught her in a hug.
Cari's POV
I got into my car and waved goodbye to the arguing Jess and Josh. Apparently Josh yelled like a little girl when watching Paranormal Activity 3. Josh begged to differ. He says that he didn't yell that loud but I bet he did.
I was currently on my way to Target to start my shift when someone tailgated me. I stopped abruptly and then pulled over to the side of the road. The suspect did the same. We both got out at the same time.
" What was that!" I yelled.
" I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." She said. I hadn't looked at her yet as I examined my baby.
" Cari." She said. My head snapped up as she started to laugh.
"Iris!" I yelled. She laughed harder and ran to hug me.
" Still, why'd you do that?" I asked.
" Eh, I knew it was you so I decided to scare you a bit. I'm heading to Target. care to give me a discount." She joked. I rolled my eyes and got in the car. I drove to Target and parked in my parking space.
Yes I had my own parking space as an assistant manager. It was just one of those perks that you get with a promotion. I brought my bag of clothes to change into and met up with Iris in the bathroom. She waited outside while I changed and the went to the office to place everything in my locker, another perk.
" Ok so you go and get whatever you were going to get here and chill at pizza hut while I deal with the sales." I told Iris. She shrugged, as if she were planning to do that anyways. I got out my receipt calculator and started punching away at sales calculations.
Personally, I prefered to scan groceries over this boring desk job but once I get enough money I'll be free to go to college once I graduate and finally get to work towards being a forensic scientist. But of course, I've got to start small.
I have to call Brice during break though. He needs to meet up with me so we could talk. That's basically what the phone call was. He apologized and said we needed to talk. About what? I didn't know. He apologized and if he just said that because he felt guilty, then there was no reason to actually sit down and have a conversation. He broke up with me, which means that I didn't mean as much to him as I thought I had. What could he possibly need me for?
"Caridad. I need you to talk to the née employee in aisle three. She doesn't understand how to sort the baby food. Can you please explain it to her?" The manager asked. I nodded and started to put away the calculator and sales charts.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of the sales today. It's your day for training the new employees." He said. I nodded and allowed room for his old figure to pass. I smiled down at the old man and walked out of the room to meet the new employees. Then, I'd meet up with Brice at lunch break.
I stared down at my watch. Only four hours till break. Only four hours.

Sorry this was so late but Sennee and I had some disagreements on where to start this. I didn't know if I should show the conversation Cari and Brice had over the phone if it was just him setting up a meet up place to talk. AlOng with other things. So hope you enjoy it! I'll be writing very soon.
