Chapter 27

I picked up my cell from the desk and answered it. Before I could say hello Iris burst into my office.

"What do you want?" I asked her. Brice, still being on the phone, made a confused sound.

"I didn't say anything yet..." Brice stated.

"Not you. Give me a minute I'll call you back." I hung up the phone and stood up from my seat.

"What do you want?" I asked, not rudely like the sentence would normally sound.

"I need a dollar!" She shouted.

"Why?" I asked.

"Cause they have Hot Cheetos in the vending machine now!" She yelled.

"Um... Wouldn't it be better to spend two dollars on four times the amount of the bag they offer in the vending machine?" I asked, recalculating once again and realizing that it was actually only $1.50 for what would be five bags based on the ounces.

"Oh well... Can I have two dollars?" She asked. I really shouldn't have told her about the deal.

"Sure..." I leaned down and picked up my purse. I reached for four dollars.

"Here. Get me a bag too. I'm gonna be here for awhile after lunch break." I handed over the money and she took it with a smile.

"Aren't you meeting up with Brice somewhere?" She asked. I nodded my head and sat back down. Iris left with a slam of the door and left me in silence. I put away all of the paperwork nice and organized and separate the taxes from the purchase costs.

I picked up my phone again and typed Brice's speed dial. I waited for him to pick up with the phone on speaker on my desk.

"Ready to talk now?" Brice chuckled. I nodded and then realized that he wasn actually in the room.

"Yup. Iris just need money for Hot Cheetos." I explained. Bruce laughed.

"That's the usual Iris." He commented.

"Okey dokey so... Where do you wanna meet?" I heard a knock on my door and sighed.

"Answer the door. I'll stay on the line." He said. I was confused at first but then realized that he was on speaker so he would have heard it.

"Ok babe. Give me a sec." I said.

"You haven't called me babe in forever." He chuckled

"That's cause you broke up with me and refused to go anywhere near me." I reminded him while heading for the door. I grabbed the phone quickly and took it off speaker.

I opened the door and dropped my phone out of shock. Brice leaned down and picked it up with a laugh. Wow he was giddy today.

He put it to my ear and began talking into his own phone.

"Told you I'd stay on the line." He said with a smile. I heard it from my ear and from Brice's mouth. He hung up and I put my phone away and vice versa. He leaned down and pecked me on the lips. He removed them quickly and I pursed my lips, missing the feel of his on mine.

"so we gonna talk." I said, as if the kiss hadn't effected me.

"of course. How about over at Pizza Hut?" He asked. I nodded and he grabbed my hand and we walked there together.

Confusion traveled slowly through my mind, stopping at certain thoughts like a car through traffic. Why would Brice act like we're still together if he broke it off with me? Obviously by his actions he still loves me, but why can't he be willing to make a sacrifice in allowing me to wait for him? Why is he so scared of me finding someone else in the years he's in the military? If he loves me, that means he should trust me too. I'm eighteen for goodness sakes! I'm not going to be so immature as to cheat on the one I loved.
