"You think I'm free?" JJ questions as he takes a seat beside her.
"Aren't you? You do what you want, when you want, no one telling you what to do, or (she pauses) ....feel"
He scrunches his face in thought.
" not constantly being told that who you are is wrong or not good enough" she adds quietly
" are we talking about me or you here?" JJ replies softly.
Kiara doesn't say anything.
" look, like you said, you don't know much about me, things aren't always how they appear to be."
" I have freedom sure but I wouldn't call myself free"
"I wish I had more freedom" kiara replies
" be careful what you wish for"
She turns to look at him slightly confused. He keeps looking straight ahead out into the ocean. Kiara couldn't imagine what meant, he always looked like he was living the high life.
"What'd you mean?" Kiara asks softly
"I don't know, just I guess the reason I have no one telling me what to do is because ..... I don't have anyone, yeah I have my friends and they're great and my family now, because I don't have one, I never did"
He clears his throat croakily.
" I'm sure you don't want that" he adds
" I'm sorry" kiara whisper looking down at her feet.
" I should never have said anything"
" no, no it's fine, I'm not looking for sympathy, I've never wanted that, it's actually nice to talk about sometimes"
"So what is the deal with your family then, if you don't mind me asking?"
"Well, that's a complicated question" he smirks
" so , my mum ( he pauses) she ... she died , when I was little, I think I was 3. And my dad, he's a drunk and a .... Well put it this way he's not a nice guy. Somehow he blames me for my mum. He stills lives here I just hardly see him, I started basically living at John B's when I was like 9, like right now I haven't been back for like 2 months"
" I don't wish for it to be different though, I like living with John B and you get what you're given in this life, there's no point in complaining about it." He sighs.
JJ goes silent for a moment.
Kiara senses he's upset and moves her hand slowly across the sand and onto his. He smiles and looks at her. They found an unusual unspoken comfort in each other.
JJ takes a deep breath " come on then" he stand up still holding her hand and pulls her up aswell.
Kiara looks at him confused.
JJ just looks at her a smiles widely , before quickly turning around and starting to sprint towards the water.
Kiara laughs at the sight and starts running after him. He's surprised when she catches up to him as they both submerge into the water falling over and cracking up in hysterics. They splash each other and fool around for the few hours just enjoying the company.
Their still laughing as they walk down the beach to the outside showers. There's two of them outside Rixons. JJ realises before Kiara that only one's free and starts to run to it, jumps in and closes the door quickly just as she reaches it.
" asshole " she says laughing
"Whatever happened to ladies first?"
" oh so you're a lady now?" He responds sarcastically she tries to pretend to be angry but can't contain her laughter.
JJ quickly showers, as much as he likes teasing her, he was only joking and wouldn't want to ever upset her, he feels like it would hurt him. Which he thought was odd, he's worried about upsetting someone he's just met?He shook of the thought and exited the shower sitting down on the bench outside.
Kiara struts past him rolling her eyes and smiling and goes in for her shower.
" took your time?" He says as kiara emerges from the cubicle fresh faced and pressing her hair with a towel. She smiles as he passes her his jumper. "Here"
" thanks" she replies accepting his kind gesture.
She put on the jumper and takes a seat.
"Can I tell you something?" JJ asks
"Sure" Kiara responds staring at his eyes.
JJ just looks at her weirdly like he's thinking about something.
" it's weird , I've never told anyone about my family before. "
"Not even you're friends?"
He smiles and shakes his head.
"no, well they know now but it took years for me to finally tell them, I just had to be sure I could trust them with it you know protect myself"
"So you trust me?" Kiara said softly with a smile not breaking eye contact.
"Yes" he nodded
"I do"
