The stolen camper van was uncomfortably silent on the drive back to Victor Creel's house, the possibilities of what comes for us next settling uneasily in everyone's thoughts.

Our courage was diminishing the more time ticked by, until we were left an anxious and jittery mess.

Black Sabbath's guitar riffs have started to become repetitive in my ears, and I'm sure the same thing has set in for Max as she sits by herself in the corner readying herself for her own battle.

Squished between Eddie and Dustin, I look over to find my brother fidgeting in his new camouflage getup.

"Hey, it's going to be fine. Stop psyching yourself out." I nudge him softly and he nods softly at my reassurance.

"Yeah, don't even worry about it Henderson. Me and your sister will take good care of you." Eddie adds easily, reaching behind me to squeeze his shoulder comfortingly.

"That isn't too reassuring." Dustin mutters out with a reluctant smile and I chuckle softly.

"Smart ass." I flick him in the face and he swipes at my hand with a grumble.

Eddie chuckles next to me at our sibling antics and I look over to lock eyes with him.  He's wearing the protective gear I got for him and it's practically swallowing him whole.

He gives me a reassuring smile which I happily return and he pulls me in closer to lean against his chest. His hand rubs circles into my arm as he holds onto me, and I lean my head against him tiredly as I continue to focus on the sounds of Black Sabbath to ground me.

We continue to sit like this, savoring each others company until the van slows to a stop.

"We're here." Steve tells us softly as the van parks in front of the condemned house and everyone turns to look over at Max who's taking a deep breath to calm herself.

The entire group takes turns saying their goodbyes to the three kids, and when Max turns to me I engulf her in a large hug. She buries her face in my jacket as I stroke her hair for a moment, letting her squeeze onto me tightly.

"Hey, you got this. You're the most badass kid I've ever met, you know that?" I tell her softly as I pull away, kissing her quickly on the forehead as she smiles softly at my statement.

"Be careful." She touches the headphones on my head and I smile softly down at her in admiration.

"Right back atchya red. Good luck."  I give her an encouraging smile which she reluctantly returns, although I can tell she's still scared out of her mind on the inside.
