"It was here, right here." Max tells us as she flashes her light at the brick wall of the school hallway.
"A grandfather clock?" Nancy asks concernedly, looking between us for clarification.
"It was so real, and when I got closer suddenly I just... I woke up." Max continues, clearly spooked by her vision.
"It was like she was in a trance or something. Exactly what Eddie said happened to Chrissy." Dustin tells us about how they found her in the counselors office, and a chill runs up my spine at the thought of it.
"That's not even the bad part... Fred and Chrissy, they both came to Ms. Kelly for help. They both were having headaches, bad headaches that just wouldn't go away. And then... then the nightmares. Trouble sleeping, they'd wake up in a cold sweat, and then they started seeing things." Max elaborates, clearly worked up about it and I start to get increasingly more nervous for her the more she talks.
"Bad things, from their past. And these visions, they just kept on getting worse and worse until eventually... everything ended."
"Vecna's curse." I mutter out, swearing at the realization.
"Chrissy's headaches started a week ago, Freds six days ago. I've been having them for five days..." Max tells us bravely, trying not to break down and cry in front of us.
"Max..." my voice cracks, my heart breaking for the girl who's already gone through so much.
"No, I don't know how long I have. All I know is that for Fred and Chrissy, they both died less than twenty four hours after their first vision. And I just saw that goddamn clock so... looks like I'm going to die tomorrow."
"Don't say that..." I tell her firmly, going over and pulling her into my chest for a hug. She stands tense for a moment, then gives in and wraps her arms around my waist as I stroke her hair soothingly.
Suddenly a noise echoes from the hallway, startling us all.
"Stay here." Steve tells us bravely, grabbing a standing lamp from the corner and using it as a weapon as he steps out into the hall.
We follow behind him quietly as we wait for the noise to round the corner.
It gets closer and closer until it jumps out in front of us.
Everyone screams and Steve does a battle yell as he reels back to beat the figure with his lamp.
"It's me! It's me!!" Lucas screams, holding his arms up in surrender.
"Jesus what's wrong with you Sinclair!? I could've taken you out with this lamp!!" Steve yells at the boy, shaking his weapon in the air wildly.
"Hey guys. I was biking for eight miles... give me one second." Lucas pants, looking very sweaty as we all take a breath of relief from that jump scare.
