The second we entered the ballroom, people stepped away to make a path for us. Prince Jeremiah confidently led me by the hand, to the center of the dance floor, and a new song began to play. I looked up at the chandelier dazzling above me and back down at the Prince.
His blonde locks framed his face just right, and I swear his eyes looked like the rarest sapphires to ever exist. He smiled at me, in the most charming way possible. There was no way he doesn't know what he's doing when he does that little grin. I then glanced around at the surrounding girls' death glaring at me, as they danced with someone other than the prince. I suddenly felt extremely aware of the situation I was in and got really self-conscience.
"Sarah."
I finally made eye contact with the Prince that stood before me. Jeremiah looked confident and full of himself on the outside, but the eyes that looked into mine were full of calm and encouragement.
He bowed slowly, keeping his eyes on mine, "Just follow my lead, okay? Forget about everyone around us."
I curtsied nervously back, "Okay but... I'm not a very good dancer."
"Don't worry. I got you."
Just as the music began to to pick up, he wrapped one arm around my waist and took my hand in his free one.
"Now put your other hand on my shoulder. Perfect," he smiled. Then we danced. One foot after the other, we made a simple four step square.
Jeremiah laughed as I stepped on his foot a third time, "You're lucky you're wearing such a lovely gown. Everyone is looking at that so the only person who knows how badly you're hurting me, is me."
I started to pull away to apologize but his grip on me only tightened, "No no, don't stop dancing. It's alright. I am enjoying myself. Pain and all."
I pressed my lips together to hide my smile.
"Don't do that either," he said furrowing his eyebrows.
"Do what?"
"Hide that smile from me."
I rolled my eyes at his cheesy line. He really is charming. I can see why the girls are so obsessed with him. I feel like a princess.
Prince Jeremiah spun me a couple times and I started to really match his rhythm. He whispered the steps in my ear and told me before he would twirl me, each time. He's surprisingly a great teacher.
"So," he began, "Tell me why my brother was glaring at you when we first walked out."
"Oh God. Was it that obvious?"
"Thankfully mother didn't notice, but I did. He's my brother after all. Now tell me, you two have a past or something? Because I'm pretty sure I know all his past conquests well enough to know I have never had the pleasure of meeting you."
I took a deep breath as we continued dancing, "Here's the thing. I didn't know it was him when we met... It was tonight actually. He was dressed up like a butler, and I might have said some really awful things to make him mad. Then he sort of just stomped off, and before I knew it, I realized he was the Prince."
Jeremiah's eyes widened and he burst out laughing, "He what?! I didn't think he'd actually do it! Wow. I'm impressed."
"At him?"
"At him AND you. Damn. I hope you said something really awful. I mean you must have hurt his feelings enough to get him to leave like that. He's usually a pretty composed guy around women."
