As I closed the door to Atlas's room, I heard him get on the phone. It sounded urgent. Like he was calling important people. I decided to seek refuge in my bedroom. I need to pack, not that there's much anyways.
Once I entered the room, I saw Mariah, Skylar, and Liz all waiting for me.
"This is the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me," Mariah squealed and gave me a big hug.
"But it's not happening to you, it's happening to Sarah," Skylar pointed out. Even though her comment was somewhat cold, I saw a slightly eager smile playing on her lips.
Liz walked up to me and gave me a tight hug,
"Congratulations Sarah. So what'd you do, huh? Seduce the boys with your eyes? Kiss someone? Whisper sweet nothings in their ears, hinting promises about special nights?"
I cringed but laughed along, "Ha ha very funny. Actually I don't really know. If anything, I insulted Prince Kalum and got Jeremiah in trouble for sneaking around with me."
"Did you go to his bedroom," Mariah shouted excitedly.
"No! The library. We chatted, that's all."
I began packing when Liz made her way over to me. "What do you mean you insulted Prince Kalum," she asked mischievously.
I laughed nervously, remembering all I said. "Well. I didn't know it was him at the time because he was dressed as a butler. He was being flirty and we got on the topic of the Princes. Then I started to rant about how stuck up and a prick the Prince probably is and UGH!" I buried my face in my hands. The memories of the night before flooding my mind. Jesus, Sarah. I can't believe I said that to his face.
Liz and Skylar burst out laughing after I finished telling them everything about my conversation with the undercover Prince. I wanted to sink into the floor. As we continued chatting, I finished packing up all my essential things for my stay at the palace.
Mariah left briefly to get us all snacks. When she came back, she informed us she saw a few Resistance leaders, of the other sections, walking into the meeting room behind Atlas. Damn, they work fast. This time tomorrow, I'll be living at the palace. With two Princes living under the same roof. Nothing feels real yet.
It began to get dark, and I desperately needed to clear my head. After the girls went to the dining hall for dinner, I made my way outside. The sun was going to set soon. Glancing around the alleyway, I then headed towards the bus stop. There was only one place that could give me space to clear my head.
The bus ride wasn't terribly long, and it thankfully wasn't too crowded either. I counted the stops until we stopped at Brickston Park. The grass below me was soft when I stepped off the bus. A cool breeze enveloped me and filled my lungs. Just as I remembered. I walked a familiar path to a large oak tree that sat atop a tall hill. My legs were screaming at me when I finally made it to the top. I plopped my ass down at the base of the tree and leaned back against the truck, trying to catch my breath. Boy am I out of shape. This used to be so much easier with Leo. He and I used to race each other up this hill. Whoever touched the tree first, got to have whatever dessert we packed for our picnic.
I closed my eyes and smiled at the memory. I really miss him. Everything has become so different since our fight. This is the longest we've ever gone without speaking to each other and it was eating me alive.
The sounds of birds chirping in their nests above me, was soothing. The breeze and shade of the tree cooled me from the sun's rays. I reached down to touch the grass beneath me, and I felt its blades tickle the spots between my fingers.
