"You assholes wrinkled my favourite dress!"

The red-head glared at the wall, her chest tightening, a lump in her throat, and a sting in her eyes. She hated this. She wanted to scream, she wanted to throw a tantrum, like a five year old being told they couldn't have ice cream before dinner. Instead, Echo composed herself, inhaled and situated back against the bed-frame. She shoved her head into her arms. As the girl heard the man snore, she raised head, locking her vision with the wounded Diego that slept beside her.

Feeling this uncomfortable sensation tickle through her, the girl gripped the sides of her neck, rubbing them till blush smeared. Strange hisses and groans, mumble out of her and invisible sweat drowned her forehead. "Red?" The waking man yawned, "What are you doing here?"

"I'm waiting for Five to get back." Her throat burned, her sentence came out raspy, "Elliot kept asking me questioned, so I can in here to get away from him."

"Are you okay?" Number Two hissed, trying to push himself up, "You're eyes are all red."

"Yeah, I was crying..." Echo used her teeth to peel her lips, "Something happened. It doesn't matter now."

"You can tell me, I've been through my fair-share of problems, I'm sure I can relate." Diego's hero-complex took over, heart swelling at the wreck of a girl. Her pale complexion seemed to get whiter, her eyes painted with mauve bags, hair standing every-which-way. "Seriously, red...What happened?"

"My, uh...Julia, from the bar, she left town...left me." Her eyes stared off, "And I-...I don't know, I'm just sad. She taught everything, you know. I've never had someone in my life before that I would consider family, but she was...she was my family, and now she's gone."

"Hey, I get it, Echo." The male sympathised, "Look, I lost my mom as well, I know it's hard."

"It's not just that...I'm scared." She admitted, picking at the skin around her nails.

"Scared?"

"There was an incident, six month ago." Echo mind flashed back. The old mans face was carved into her mind, the way he smirked at her, whispered. Julia saved her that night, from whatever fate was to come to her. "Jules saved me. And after that I didn't speak for a while. So, she help me get my voice back...She stuck me in two different karate classes, and taught me self defence until I wasn't scared anymore."

"You're scared you're gonna lose your voice again?" Diego solved, glancing at her, she nodded, "Jesus, red...Okay, let's make a promise."

She sniffled, "What?"

"If my stutter comes back, you have to help me. And if you lose your voice again, I have to help you, okay?" He grinned, as she agreed, "Now, help me get up. My Dad really did a number on my the other night."

There was something so wholesome about the moment they shared. Sure, Echo was a Forty-Five year-old woman and a killer, but the man thought there was something so childlike about her. An innocent. Maybe it was an act she put on? But he saw it in her eyes, a true fear, a cry for help.
