Chapter 33: Johnny the Beautician

~Time skip to Friday after school~

Pony, Johnny, and I walk home from school. When we get to the house, Pony goes straight to his room. He's still grounded and very unhappy about it. I hope Pony has learned his lesson and will finally accept the fact that he is in love with Johnny Cade.

Johnny and I go to our room and I start packing for Cherry's. She's coming to pick me up at 4:30. It's three o'clock now so I only have an hour and a half.

"Are you excited?" Asks Johnny as he watches me throw things into my duffel bag.

"Yes. And scared."

"Don't be scared. It's gonna be fine."

"What should I wear?"

"That red and blue flannel you stole from Soda and pair it with jeans and your converse." Says Johnny. I steal Soda's flannels quite often. I wear them with jeans whenever I'm not in school because I hate dresses and skirts. It's just against the school dress code for girls to wear pants. It's a pretty bullshit rule if you ask me.

"Sounds good." I go into my closet and grab the outfit Johnny suggested. I don't bother going into the bathroom to change because it's only Johnny. Unlike some of the other guys, he knows to look away. I finish getting dressed and turn towards him. "How do I look?"

"Gorgeous. You should also put on that really nice pink lip gloss you have."

"Ooo yeah, good idea."

"And you can do that fancy ponytail?"

"Okay."

"And the red ribbon."

"Johnny, do you just want to do my hair and makeup?"

"Oh, I never thought you'd ask! Get all your beauty stuff and come sit here on the bed." 

I sit down next to him and he starts organizing all of my makeup. He's done my makeup before and he's not that bad at it. He starts on my eyeliner. This is the tricky part. I don't necessarily like eyeliner but most of the other greaser girls wear it. It's our trademark. After he finishes the eyeliner he puts on my mascara, and then a little bit of blush. He finishes off the look with my favorite pink lip gloss. He holds up a mirror so I can see how good of a job he did.

"Wow, Johnny, this looks fantastic."

"You really think so?"

"Yeah, it looks great!"

"Now onto your hair." Johnny grabs a hairbrush and starts detangling my hair. "I'm not hurting you, am I?"

"No, not at all."

"Okay." There was a not-so-awkward silence. "Geez Lavender, your hair is getting long."

"So is yours. Your bangs are so long that I'm surprised you can even see anything." I joke.

"Yeah, yeah. I know. I need a haircut. I just can't afford it right now."

"Johnny, I can do it for you. I do Sodapop's all the time. I'm actually pretty good at it."

"Really? You'd do that for me?"

"Of course, Johnny. You're my best friend. I'll help you anytime you need it."

"Thanks, Lav."

"No problem, I'll cut your hair when I get home tomorrow".

Johnny finishes my hair and I put on some of my mom's perfume. I wear it on special occasions so I can feel closer to her.
