Chapter 45: Meanwhile

~rewind back to 8pm~

~Johnny's pov~

Once Lavender and Cherry leave, Ponyboy and I sit at the table for a bit in awkward silence.

"How about we go out to the parking lot and stargaze?" I suggest.

"Sure." Says Ponyboy and my heart starts racing. I can't believe I'm going to ask out the love of my life.

We head out the door. We find a bench nearby and Ponyboy helps me out of my chair and we sit on it. We can still hear Christmas music coming from the gym. Fat snowflakes are falling from the sky. The cold winter air nips at my skin.

"So much for stargazing." Laughs Ponyboy, "Can't see anything because of those darn clouds." He puts his arm around me and I rest my head on his shoulder. I take a deep breath.

"Ponyboy?" I ask. My voice cracks because of my nervousness.

"Yeah, Johnny?"

"Can I tell you something?"

"Of course, Johnny. You can tell me anything."

"Lavender and I aren't really dating. She pretended to be my girlfriend so that nobody would know that I'm gay."

"Johnny? You're gay" Ponyboy asks and I nod my head.

"And I know that you're gay, too."

"W-what? I'm not gay! Did Cherry tell you?"

"No. Cherry didn't tell me. You were talking in your sleep. You said you love me."

"I'm sorry Johnny. It's okay if you don't like me back. No one was ever supposed to find out. Please don't hate me."

"Ponyboy it's okay! I love you too."

"Like, in a romantic way?"

"Yes, in a romantic way. Ponyboy Curtis, will you be my boyfriend?"

"Yes!" Ponyboy says and he looks around before planting a small kiss on my cheek.

"You missed."

"What?"

"You missed," I repeat and I give him a passionate kiss on the lips. This is what a real kiss feels like.
