I clicked my feet on my board and stood tall, hands on my hips looking up at him.
He was staring at me. Blinking and taking a step closer, he placed a hand on my waist, shocking me. Even through the thickness of my jacket, I felt the pressure of his...
It's crazy how fast time seemed to move when you weren't watching it.
It'd already been a few days since our trip and Nathan was talking about the first local competition I'd be doing coming next week.
I had been naive in thinking I'd have more time.
And it wasn't just the actual competition I was nervous about, I was also on edge about the news that he was my coach coming out. Once everyone knew, there'd be no turning back.
And I knew it wasn't going to be taken well. There was already speculation about Nathan retiring. I'd hate to somehow be blamed for that.
"You're too quiet. What are you thinking about?"
I looked up to my left, the sun giving me little warmth. "Nothing."
Nathan wore his snow pants and jacket, carrying both my board and his. Today he decided we'd do an afternoon practice at the resort. And he was planning on actually joining me.
I tampered down my excitement so I didn't seem so much like a fan girl. It was one thing to be coached by him but to actually watch him shred in person sounded awesome.
It was a busy day at the resort which I assumed was because of the holiday. Tonight there'd probably be a Halloween party in the dance hall for the residents. I was just glad I wasn't working.
The mountain was busy with kids snow tubing, people eating and talking at outdoor resort cafes, and teenagers skiing everywhere.
We took a ski lift up the mountain, silently sitting next to each other.

Then we walked towards the half-pipe together.
It was the first time we'd ever really been together in public.
Nathan was stopped at least 5 times by a fan just on our way up. I got a few curious looks but hid behind my ski goggles and helmet.
Nathan didn't seem to care and was unfazed by the fact that people kept staring at him as we walked.
I just didn't get why we had to practice at such a late time when everyone would be out and in such a public setting.
"It's just—-Is there a reason why you wanted to meet so late? When it'd be so packed." I pondered aloud.
We were on a huge mountain but somehow it felt small with the sound of screaming kids and people talking.
I could see someone in the corner of my eye taking video of Nathan from the back, trying to be inconspicuous but failing.
The crunching of snow beneath my boots was a sound I focused in on.
We came to a stop and he looked over my head, staring off into nothingness.
