Nathan's POV

December 31st (New Year's Eve)

2:07 pm

I grimaced as I wiped the bottom of my sneakers, removing the cat poop the best I could.

Stitch.

Turns out that getting Lilo a cat meant I was doing most of the training and cleanup. Instead of looking after one human, I was looking after her furry side kick too. I honestly should've expected it.

"Lilo, I told you, he has to get used to the litterbox. You have to tell me when he poops in the house." Lilo looked down at Stitch and pointed her finger at him in a waving motion.

"Daddy, Stitch pooped on the floor," She announced.

I stopped scrubbing the bottom of my shoe and looked over at her. "Ipo, I know. I'm cleaning it now."

"No, I mean in the laundry room."

I stopped cleaning and sighed, grinding my teeth together. "Thank you for letting me know."

"You're welcome." She picked up the cat and walked away gingerly. "Come on Stitch, let's go make a sandcastle."

She walked out the backdoor as Whitney moved around her, coming in. She looked at my shoes with a questioning expression.

"Don't ask." I dropped the sneakers by my feet and sighed, throwing the dirty rag in the sink.

"I'm really happy everything worked out the other night," She said, opening the fridge to grab a bowl of fruit. "I was a bit worried she would chicken out of going to the restaurant, to begin with."

"It wouldn't have happened without you," I said leaning my back against the counter. I crossed my arms and looked at her. "I seriously don't even want to ask how you were able to narrow it down."

I'd presented the idea to Whitney a couple of days ago and she jumped on it without a second thought. Though I had found where the restaurant was located she was the one who had found Kai personally. He was somewhere deep in her mom's old Facebook friend list.

She shrugged, cutting a large piece of watermelon into small pieces. "It was no big deal. Everyone always leaves a thick internet trail of their lives in some way so it wasn't too hard."

Whitney was smart in a kind way that was different from Bowie. It was more a subtle kind of thing. But she wouldn't stop asking questions or looking until she found her answers.

"I'd do anything for her so..." She trailed off and continued cutting.

"Do you mind me asking you a question?"

"Shoot."

"What was Bowie like when she was younger? Like growing up and stuff." I knew about her mom and their relationship dynamic but there was still so much about her that I didn't know.

Whitney looked up at me. "She was about the same just more stressed I would say."
