I clicked my feet on my board and stood tall, hands on my hips looking up at him.
He was staring at me. Blinking and taking a step closer, he placed a hand on my waist, shocking me. Even through the thickness of my jacket, I felt the pressure of his...
My hands dipped into the water, pulling a ceramic plate out and under the faucet. The dishes had started to pile up once Lilo said she wanted to make a cake.
Stevie and Nalu worked diligently with her and I think they were starting to understand how hard it was to keep a 3-year-old still. Two glasses had broken in the span of 2 hours.
Lilo would cover her mouth with shock on her face and whisper, "Oopsie," every time.
That's when she got moved to icing duty and Stevie had to take over mixing.
I turned off the water and scrubbed at the dinner plate, noticing that the sink was somewhat leaky. It was spilling water on the back of the counter and I wondered if the girls had noticed yet.
Looking up out the window near the sink, I had a clear view of the backyard and I could see Nalu playing with Lilo.
They made a pile of leaves and she jumped into it with her coat on, nearly disappearing. Nalu dragged her out by the leg and lifted her into his arms. I could hear her screaming and laughing from here.
Stevie sat on one of the lawn chairs wrapped in a blanket, sleeping. Tibby was sitting on her lap and I was somewhat surprised. Bowie told me they were sworn enemies.
The sun was setting soon giving the sky an orange/light blue haze and making the tall evergreen trees darken.
My eyes landed on the picture sitting on the window sill. The corners of the frame were covered in sea shells and glitter. A little black girl sat on an older women's lap and smiled back at me. I stared at it long enough to know that it wasn't Bowie. Probably one of her sisters.
They didn't look that similar though. I had seen a bunch of photos around the house and noticed that all of the sisters looked a bit different. Maybe they were half.
I heard footsteps padding towards the kitchen and looked over to my left to see Bowie walk in through the doorway.
She was rubbing her eyes and wearing a white oversized sweater, revealing her light brown legs and green fuzzy socks. I blinked noticing the tortoiseshell glasses on her face. I didn't know she wore glasses.
For some reason, I felt like only made her that much cuter.

She brushed her knuckles on the wooden island counter and stopped, looking at the cake on the table. The cake was covered in white frosting and had colorful sprinkles on top with dollops of white icing. It was cut improperly thanks to Lilo and I watched as a small smile form on Bowie's lips.
