I clicked my feet on my board and stood tall, hands on my hips looking up at him.
He was staring at me. Blinking and taking a step closer, he placed a hand on my waist, shocking me. Even through the thickness of my jacket, I felt the pressure of his...

Bowie's POV

"Close your eyes." I rubbed sunscreen into Lilo's cheeks carefully while she stuffed a grape into her mouth. She sat in my lap in her hot pink baby bathing suit. I had pulled her hair up into a ponytail this morning and an hour later it was already fuzzy.
I sprayed her back with the baby sunscreen and she screeched with laughter. "That tickles!"
"Sorry," I laughed.
I tossed the bottle back into my beach bag and looked over to my left. "Are you going to get in the water?"
"Nah...dah water's na ready yet," Nalu answered while staring out at the ocean.

He had only been in Oahu for a week and his skin was already tanner than ever.
"I seriously don't know how you leave home and come back to Aspen every time."
He picked up some sand with one hand and smirked. "I love it here yah...but I've got money to make. I'm jus' grateful to 'ave a second home."
"I can't imagine growing up here...I mean my mom had me here but she left right after." My mind tried to conjure a picture of my mother pregnant with me, sitting on the beach. She was only 19 years old. Poppy's age.
"ʻAnakala", Lilo said shocking us both. (Uncle.)
"I wanna go swimming now," She said, climbing out of my lap and onto his. Nalu laughed genially, probably still stuck on what she just said.
"Yeah, we can go...but you 'ave to stay with me." He lifted her up and stood, tossing me his phone from his pocket.
"Have fun," I said waving to Lilo. They headed toward the water and I watched.
The sun was beating down hard on me and now I was starting to sweat. I was wearing an oversized shirt and jean shorts with my swimsuit underneath so that didn't help.
Nathan had promised to teach me how to surf but now I was starting to back out mentally. I could swim but the ocean was just too...big. He said surfing was just like snowboarding but I doubted that because the snow didn't typically drown you unless there was an avalanche.
I added sunscreen to my own arms and then cleaned up the mess of toys and snacks Lilo had left behind. Her little mermaid toys and goldfish crackers were everywhere. The sound of a phone pinging had me looking down for my phone. But it wasn't mine.
The sound came again and I looked down to my right this time, noticing it was Nalu's phone.
And before I could pull my eyes away, I quickly read the text that popped up.
