Nathan's POV

April 22nd

I stared at the fireplace, the flicker of fire and the smell of smoke warming me. The patio doors were open, giving a view of the backyard as rain poured down from the sky.

A light breeze traveled into the house, an earthy smell filling the living room.

My eyes lifted to the mantle of the fireplace, an array of pictures that sat there. One of me and Lilo on one of our Daddy-daughter dates. Another one of me and Bowie both holding snowboards outside on the snowy terrain. It was taken last November...before everything happened.

The rest were an array of pictures either Poppy had taken or I had found in my camera roll

The rest were an array of pictures either Poppy had taken or I had found in my camera roll. The biggest frame was a picture of me, Lilo, and Bowie. It was taken on our wedding day, the three of us blowing out the birthday candles. It was in black and white.

I stared at it for another 3 minutes noting how different Bowie had looked back then. Skinnier and more tired. I didn't know how bad it would get after that. Chemotherapy did a number on her body....slowly killing her more than healing her.

I exhaled and sat down on the arm of the chair, staring down at the box of photos in between my legs.

Poppy had asked for a photo of Bowie for a project she was working on in one of her classes. I had most of the photos of Bowie.

I bent down to rifle through it and found so many random photos from last December and a few from February.
