"Can we sit here for a bit? I'm not ready to go home yet." He nods and we sit there watching the lightning for a while, still holding hands.

Eddie's POV
Friday, September 6, 1985.

I looked down at our still connected hands and my stomach did a flip. I knew y/n probably didn't let go because she hadn't yet realized we were still holding hands, but I was still going to relish in it. Despite being drenched head to toe, her hair crazy and stuck messily to her face and neck, she was still absolutely breathtaking.

"What were you listening to?" I asked, breaking the silence after some minutes passed. Y/n looked over at me, confused. "Before, what song were you listening to?"

Y/n gently pulled her hand away, making me lightly frown. She grabbed her Walkman out of her pocket and rewinded the tape a bit before discharging it and handing it to me. I looked down at the tape, reading her writing on the front of it.

"'Moody mix.' Dear god." I laughed at the mix's title, making y/n slap my arm. I shook my head and replaced the tape I already had in my stereo with y/n's mix.

🤍 (A/N: Ik the song came out in '87 but i like it for this scene, so we're gonna ignore that lol.)

I pressed play, making the intro to "Is This Love?" by Whitesnake blare from my speakers. I looked over at y/n with an incredulous expression on my face. "This is moody to you?"

"Shut up," Y/n groaned, hiding her face in her hands. I giggled at her embarrassment. It's cute.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I laughed, pulling her hands away from her face so I could look at her. I kept my hands on hers and she didn't pull away, making me smirk to myself.

"So, you said you come here to think about stuff a lot," She asked, looking up from our hands. I nodded at y/n's words. "What was on your mind this time?"

"Nothing," I shrugged, trying my best to appear nonchalant as I turned away from her and pulled one of my hands away. She grabbed tightly onto my remaining hand with both of hers, making my heart race.

"Come on, you had to be thinking of something. Please tell me," Y/n begged, squeezing my hand. I didn't want to answer her question, in fear that my answer will make her uncomfortable. She continued begging until I finally caved.

"You." I muttered, cautiously looking over to her. Y/n gasped softly, a blush creeping onto her cheeks. "After reading your Hellfire story, I started to feel really bad about what happened between us," I continued, referencing our fight. Her face dropped as she remembered, her hands fidgeting with the rings on my fingers. "Y/n, I'm really sorry for what I said."

"I am too," Y/n said in a hushed tone. She raised her eyes, staring intensely into mine. "But, Eddie I have to know, why do you give me such a hard time?" I sighed, running my hand through my hair. I chewed the skin off my bottom lip as I prepared for what I was about to say.

"I guess a part of it is Steve, ever since the first time I saw you, seeing how you are with him makes me jealous." I admitted. Y/n raised her eyebrows, taken aback.

"Why, though?" She sighed, exhaling the breath she had been holding. I felt her breath tickle my face from how close she was to me. With our proximity and the sound of the music muddled by the the rain pattering on the roof of my van, an intimate ambiance formed between us. I was so close to just outright spilling my guts about how I felt about her at this point, but I stopped myself.

"I don't know, I guess I just don't like the kid," I chuckled, avoiding the question slightly. I swear I could hear y/n's heart beating as I gently tucked a wet hair behind her ear. Something came over me and I allowed my hand to linger on her cheek. Y/n's eyes flickered down to my lips. My stomach fluttered, feeling a tension rising. "I guess I'm just bad at saying how I'm feeling." I said quietly, gently running my thumb over her bottom lip.
