Y/N's POV
Thursday, October 24th, 1985"Have a good day, bud," My dad said to me as I got out of the car in the student lot of the school. I waved to him, a donut in my mouth, as I slung my bag over my shoulder, my other hand occupied by a paper coffee cup. My dad insisted on driving me that morning, making it a special occasion by stopping off at a breakfast joint on the way, saying he missed bringing me to school since I started riding with Eddie everywhere. I slammed the car door shut behind me with my hip as I removed the donut from my mouth and headed across the lot to the school. Shortly into my trek, Eddie leaning against his van smoking a cigarette in the back corner of the lot came into my view. I changed courses, making my way over to him instead as he smiled at my approaching frame.
"Hey," I greeted him, kissing his tobacco flavored lips briefly as he pushed off the van to engulf me in a hug, before scolding him. "You're gonna get in trouble for smoking again."
"Like I care," Eddie snickered as he threw the half-finished butt onto the ground before squishing it under the toe of his boot. "You ready for the test in Clarke's today?"
"You mean tomorrow," I corrected him.
"Nope, today," He shook his head, standing firm in his assertation.
"No offense, but I pay way more attention in that class than you do," I pointed out, taking another bite from my donut.
"Then you would know he's been talking about the test being today all week," He raised his eyebrows, challenging me.
"Here, hold this for a second," I shoved the donut into his hands as I began rummaging for my planner in my bag to confirm the date. Eddie brought the donut to his mouth, taking a monstrous bite of the powdery pastry. "Hey! I told you to hold it, not eat it all!"
I reached for the donut to yank it out of his grasp as he pulled it away, holding it above his head out of my reach.
"Sharing is caring, babe," He said with a full mouth, licking his lips before swallowing. "Y'know I thought you'd be nicer to me this morning considering what today is."
"What's today?" I asked as I continued my search for my planner in the mess of papers crumpled into my black hole of a bag.
"You seriously forgot? Ouch," Eddie winced jokingly. I looked up from my digging, furrowing my eyebrows at him. "It's been one month today since we got together."
"Oh shit, it's the 24th, isn't it?" I asked, guilt overtaking my expression. Eddie simply nodded. "I'm sorry, babe."
"I don't know how I'll ever recover from such heartache," Eddie jibed, putting on a dramatic display as he clasped his hands together and slammed them roughly against his chest, faking stabbing himself in the heart. He closed his eyes and stuck his tongue out, playing dead for a moment, before peeking one eye open and allowing a crooked smirk to spread across his lips. He broke out into laughter, amused by himself, as I rolled my eyes at him. "It's really fine, but you can make it up to me by letting me take you out tonight."
"I have work until eight, though," I huffed, frowning.
"Well, wear something cute to work then, because at 8:01, I'm picking you up and taking you somewhere special," He insisted pridefully as he took another bite of my donut.
"Whatever you want," I agreed, chuckling. "Can I have my donut back now?"
"Not a chance, this is collateral for you forgetting," He said as he grabbed his bag from the ground and started toward the school. I slung my own bag over my shoulder once more as I followed behind him.
