Y/N's POV
Saturday, September 21, 1985.After what felt like an eternity, Steve and I were finally leaving work for the night. We still had a few tasks left uncompleted on the list, due to Steve being his unhelpful self, but Keith practically pushed us out of the doors, grumbling something about being tired of looking at our faces. It was significantly past the time when my shift was supposed to end and I was cursing Steve in my mind for making us leave so late. Fortunately, the universe would be serving him karma piping hot the next morning, as he was going to be responsible for completing the remaining tasks at his opening shift tomorrow.
"You need a ride?" Steve looked up at me as he locked up.
"No thanks, my dad is meeting me at the diner down the street," I said, slinging my purse over my shoulder.
"Okay, well, goodnight," He waved to me before we parted ways, him heading to his car and me towards the road. I walked down the street, hugging myself as the cold air whipped me on this windy autumn night. I wasn't exactly sure where this diner Eddie spoke of was, so I wandered hurriedly down the street, looking out for his van in each parking lot I passed. After a few minutes of walking and not spotting Eddie, I started to become anxious and I checked my watch. 8:47pm. I prayed that I wasn't too late and that he didn't think I was standing him up. I walked a past a few more small buildings before I spotted that familiar clunky van in a dimly lit parking lot in front of a tiny diner. I practically sprinted across the street into the lot as Eddie leaning against his van came into clearer view.
"Hey," He flicked the cigarette he had been smoking down onto the ground as he heard my footsteps approaching. "I was starting to worry that you wouldn't come."
"Sorry, got held up at work," I panted, out of breath from running as he pushed off the van and walked up to me, closing the distance between us.
"Yeah, I can tell," He chuckled, flickering his eyes down to my work vest that I still had on before leaning down to press his lips gingerly against mine. His hands found my hips and he pulled me closer to him as he began to kiss me with more force. I began to unbutton my vest, not wanting to walk around in the unflattering garment anymore. He pulled back and flashed his perfect teeth to me. "Woah, babe, save that for the bedroom."
"Shut up," I giggled as I shrugged the vest off and crammed it into my purse.
"You hungry? I was thinking we could go in and grab a bite to eat," Eddie offered, pointing this thumb back towards the diner. I nodded, feeling starved after not having the opportunity to take a proper lunch break. He interlaced our fingers, leading me towards the diner and opening the door for me as the scent of fried food hit me. My stomach growled in response and we got in line to order. He slung his arm over my shoulder as we peered up towards the menu over the registers and I opened my bag slightly, digging through it to find my wallet. Eddie squeezed me closer against his side and looked down to me, shaking his head. "I've got it, babe. Why don't you find us somewhere to sit?"
"Sure, get me a BLT and fries please?" I asked, sliding the straps of my purse back over my shoulder.
"Okay, princess," He smiled down to me as I slipped out from under his arm. I rounded the corner into the small dining area, only containing three cramped booths practically stacked on top of one another from how close they were to each other. I selected the one closest to where I was standing and scooted into the booth before grabbing a sugar packet from the small box of them on the table. I flicked the packet in my fingers before tearing it open and pouring the sweet contents into my mouth as I looked aimlessly around the room. My eyes landed on a group of boys in varsity jackets at the table furthest from me and I realized I recognized them from school. I made eye contact with the blonde boy at the end of his table, his icy eyes burning into mine. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat as a sly smile crept onto his lips. I tore my gaze from his and focused my eyes on the table in front of me, a deep blush creeping onto my cheeks.
