Y/N's POV
Thursday, October 31st, 1985.

I adjusted the suspenders that dug into my shoulders, the discomfort exacerbated by Dustin pushing me further against the armrest of the couch, as I began to regret my uncomfortable costume choice. Robin and I decided to go with a couple's costume idea, her being Tommy Chong and me being Cheech because of our mutual love for the masterpiece that is Cheech and Chong's Up In Smoke. The three younger teens that sat squished on Dustin's living room couch beside me were also in the matching spirit, going as the Goonies, with Lucas being Brand Walsh, Max being Andy, and Dustin being Chunk.

"I don't get your costume," Lucas said to me, motioning his hand up and down my body, reaching over Dustin's lap. "What are you supposed to be?"

"Cheech, duh," I responded, pointing to the signature red beanie on my head. Lucas scrunched his eyebrows together, a silent indication that it still wasn't clicking for him, which was understandable enough, as my yellow crop top and jeans were pretty basic. "It makes more sense when Robin's standing next to me."

"Is it really a good costume, then, if 'getting it' requires another person as an accessory?" Lucas argued, raising his eyebrows as he snatched a Pizza Roll off the piping hot tray that Dustin's mom prepared for us to snack on while we waited for the rest of the group.

"Lucas, you want to talk about good costumes? You literally slapped on some sweats and a bandana and called it a day," Max chuckled, nudging Lucas with her elbow.

"It's obvious that I'm Brand Walsh," Lucas retorted, rolling his eyes.

"See, I disagree. If you're not with the rest of the group, you just look like a guy in sweats," Dustin piped in, plucking the bandana on Lucas's head, the fabric snapping back against his forehead.

"Shut up, Chunk," Lucas huffed, pushing Dustin's hand away.

"I'm just saying, you're a hypocrite," Dustin continued digging into Lucas, shifting his body to face him. At this point, the two younger boys began bickering viciously as Max slumped back into the couch, her face contorted in irritation.

"I can't believe you've been putting up with this for a year," I laughed, leaning over Dustin's erratically gesturing frame to the younger girl. Suddenly, interrupting the boys' shouting match, the doorbell rang and Dustin sprang up from the couch to answer it, him making one last snide comment to Lucas before rushing to the front door. A second later, he reentered the living room, dressed up Steve, Robin, Nancy, and Mike in tow. Dustin smiled widely when expressing his excitement at the fact that him and Robin were practically matching, both of them standing there in tacky Hawaiian shirts. The Wheelers joined me in having basic costumes,  with Nancy wearing an all-black get up and matching cat ears and Mike wearing his usual clothes with a yellow raincoat on top, claiming to be Mikey from the Goonies to match his friends. Steve entered the living room last, wearing boxers and a button up shirt, his floppy hair pushed back by a pair of basic Ray-Bans on top of his head. I cocked an eyebrow at him, confused as to what he was supposed to be. "Pajamas?"

"Risky business," Steve corrected me as he approached where I sat on the couch, towering over me. "Y'know, Tom Cruise?"

"Never seen it," I shrugged as I stood up in front of him, our faces too close for a moment as he sucked in a sharp breath.

"Uh, we should get going," Steve cleared his throat, stepping back and almost toppling into the coffee table behind him. The group unanimously agreed, all of us filing out of Dustin's house and splitting evenly between Steve and Nancy's cars before heading in the direction of Jason Carver's house. After a short drive, the two cars parked at the end of the long line of vehicles that spanned down the entire street. We all got out of our respective rides and regrouped, walking up the hill towards the echoes of the bumping music, before a large house came into view. The group trailed up the long driveway, occasionally passing by couples making out against cars and drunken teenagers sprawled out on the lawn.
