Eddie's POV

Saturday, September 28, 1985.

I turned my rearview mirror to face me as I checked myself one last time, bearing my teeth to make sure I had nothing between them, before grabbing the bouquet from my passenger's side and stepping out of my van. As I walked up to her house, I began to regret wearing this goofy button-up as a sweat built up on my torso under the dark, non-breathable fabric. I felt silly being so nervous. Y/n and I had already hung out a ton, but going on a real date felt strangely formal and out of my comfort zone. Standing at her doorstep, I contemplated turning around and going back home to change, afraid she'd make fun of me for my out of character get-up, but it was already past the time we agreed on me picking her up. I decided to just suck it up and I took in a shaky breath before knocking on the front door, posing the bouquet in my hand. I stood there for a moment, my heart beating out of my chest, as I waited for her to answer. The door opened and instead of it being y/n, it was an gruffy older man, looking back at me with a confused expression.

"Hello?" He said, the greeting sounding more like a question.

"Hi," I smiled back to him. I scanned the man's features, noting a similarity between him and y/n. "You must be y/n's dad."

"Yes," The man raised an eyebrow at me. "And you are?"

"Oh, right, sorry," I bumbled, sticking my hand out to him. "Eddie Munson. I'm a friend of y/n."

The man stared at me, wariness present in his face as he hesitantly took my hand and shook it once before dropping his hand. We stood there staring at each other for a moment, the awkwardness impossible to ignore.

"So, um, is she here?" I spoke, rubbing the back of my neck. His eyes ran up and down my frame, his eyebrows raising as they fell onto the flowers in my hand.

"Oh, uh, yeah. Come in," He stepped to the side, allowing me to come into the entranceway before closing the door behind me. He turned to the stairs, yelling up to y/n's room. "Honey, you have a visitor!"

Her bedroom door opened, and y/n stepped out, leaning over the banister. She was in a baby pink bathrobe and half of her hair was up in rollers, her makeup being mostly done. Her eyes fell on me and she broke out into an excited grin.

"You look nice," She beamed down to me, adoration painting her features. I beamed up to her myself, partly from my heart warming at the sight of her and partly out of relief that she approved of what I was wearing. "I'm almost done, just come on up."

I stepped towards the stairs as she turned back into her room, but was stopped by her dad placing himself between me and the stairs.

"You can wait down here while she gets dressed," He said sternly, an uncomfortable look on his face at the thought of me being in his daughters room while she's naked. Little does he know... Out of respect, I nodded and stepped back from the stairs. Despite being an entire head taller than the man, I felt slightly intimidated by him due to the fact he was my girlfriend's father. Her dad retreated into the living room and grabbed a half-drank beer bottle from the coffee table before sitting in the recliner. I slowly stumbled into the living room after him, cautiously sitting down on the couch on the opposite side of the room from him. I stared at my scuffed converse, praying y/n would hurry up as I felt her dad's eyes on me.

"So, Eddie," Her dad cleared his throat. "You're in y/n's class?"

"Yes, sir," I said, making an effort to sound respectful as I desperately wanted him to like me.

"Any plans for college?" He asked, his effort visible on his face as he tried to fake a smile.

"Um, no, I don't think I'm going to college," I replied.
