Hana was working in her office at the Los Angeles Sanctum when Nora, her student assistant, walked in with, "Mr. Sampath is here to see you."
Hana, thinking it was one of her students' parents, dismissed the small curly-haired girl, "Thank you, Nora. Let him in." To Hana's surprise, it was Nirved. Hana sat back on her faux lambskin-covered seat, "So, Nirved Sampath, huh?"
"Hana," the young man placed his hands on the desk, "I love Amy, and I know you do too. This outburst she had was just spurred by jealousy and her wanting your approval. She didn't mean to hurt you or anyone else."
Hana cleared her throat, "I appreciate you coming here. You really are a good man, and you really do care for her, but I'm afraid..."
Nirved sighs, "She ended things, said she had a destiny and that she couldn't let anyone distract her from it."
Hana was at a loss for words; this was news to her; Amy would never choose duty over love. Duty over love was a lesson that Akari taught her daughters and granddaughters, but Tina and her daughters never followed it.
Hana and her sisters learned from a young age that Tina had defied her mother's expectations; how was lost in translation, but Hana was there; she knew her parents were deeply in love. Tina wasn't one to talk of the past. She discussed the future and sometimes the present, but the past was always a sore topic for her, so no one dared ask.
