"Okay, Molly," Guita sat down, "why am I here?"

"I need your help," Molly looks at Guita and slides a book across the table, "I'm taking a class about law and its impact on society… my final is tomorrow. Please, help me!"

"Fine," Guita rolls her eyes, "let's look at what you're learning." Opens the book, "How does law correlate with social change?"

Molly responds, "Social change is determined by a combination of factors there is no single perspective to explain social change. However, Society impacts law through society's moral beliefs, customs, and practices. The best way to change laws is by approaching people's beliefs and infusing that with the law. Even if, legislative is slow and cumbersome and it takes time to change."

"Good," Guita nods, "and the development of vagrancy laws are?"

Molly recalls, "When the bubonic plague was over,  the wealthy, aka our parents, found themselves in need of workers. So, parliament declared that being unemployed was illegal. Even though society doesn't outright tell us that being unemployed is illegal, they made sure that we wouldn't survive by being unemployed."

"And," Guita looks up from the book, "what are the two ways law change society and explain each."

"Indirectly and directly." Molly confidently replied, "Indirectly is by influencing institutions like when society gave fines to an organization. For example, tattoo parlors get fined if the artist tattoos minors without parental consent. Directly is by imposing new rules the seatbelt law, for example."

"Distinguish 'deep defense' and 'slack'." Guita arched her eyebrows.

"Deep defense is when an issue is strongly supported by society," Molly responds, "while slack defense his when the law is not really supported by the masses."

"Legal reforms."

"Change in attitudes;" Molly sighs, "when laws and court decisions establishes racial equality slowly led to change in pop attitudes and acceptance of racial integration."
