Miko's POV:

Her home was rather... gloomy and appears depressing. It looked like a typical vampire lair, or perhaps a castle, like in certain fairytales. But this is no fairy tale; Ei and I are standing in front of the castle.

The clouds were really dark and seemed like it was about to rain, they were vampires passing across us, looking at me as if I was their food, but Ei looked at them with menace in her eyes, so they left.

"I apologize if this looks... depressing," she said.

"Ah, no, don't worry about it,"

"What do you want to know?" she said as we passed through the gates and entered the castle; the entryway was enormous.

"I... actually don't know," I said. "Your childhood?"

"It was quite boring since the war was still going on when I was born, and I was trained at such a young age to fight and kill without mercy," she said. "It was torturous training,"

At such a little age... It's as though she was born to kill.

"My elder sister personally trained me, and every Saturday we would have a duel, and she would always win, until I reached the age of a teenager, when I eventually managed to beat her," she explained. "She was becoming weak in combat, so I was sent to the front line to fight and kill, while my sister was assigned to organize the attacks on humans, werewolves, and witches,"

We entered a huge room that served as the library; other parts were dusty and were being cleaned by vampires; other parts were spotless.

"At the age of 30, Scaramouche, my younger brother was born," she said. "I don't get along with him because... he was such a softie, and I despite that behavior, of course, just at first,"

"But as time passed and I began to comprehend things, such as the war being... simply a dumb war, a waste of time, and I understood Scaramouche's feelings on why he was hesitating to kill, why he was such a softie,"

We sat at a nearby table, and she took out a book and handed it to me, but she continued talking.

"I didn't know how to apologize; I intended to when the war ended, but I just can't because he hated me back and still has a grudge against me," she explained. "So I left the castle and tried to change my life,"

"And?"

"I learnt... numerous things, such as having sympathy, feeling sad, gloomy, happy, or any other emotion out there," she said. "I even had two vampire friends who taught me a lot about the world, not only about the war back then, the history, they showed me what it's like to live without the war, without any bloodshed," she says.

"And they left you?"

"They did," she said, "but I'm not upset." "Well, maybe a little bit," she said with a smile. "But they must have a reason for leaving, and I absolutely understand that,"

She must have overthought for a long time, wondering why her friends left her. This makes me want to never leave her and stay by her side forever.

"I'm completely fine now," she said. "That book has all the history, what all the races did to the war back then, but it doesn't change the reality that the vampires were.... the most horrifying back then,"

I shut the book and turned to face her, not wanting to know the history, which I already knew. "What I wanted to learn is not this," I said, moving closer to her ear and whispered, "what I wanted to learn is about you, your life, not that... meaningless history."

When I looked at her, her face was flushed; she is very adorable when she is blushing. She grabbed my hand, stopping me from returning to my seat. "In exchange, you tell me yours, do we have a deal?" she whispered into my ear.

Oh, gods. Her husky voice is quite seductive.

"We have a deal," I said as I sat back down. She smiled at me, then turned to face someone behind me. I looked to see who it was, and it was a... butler? Who's that tall?

"Speak,"

"I apologize for interrupting your conversation with your friend, but lady Makoto has returned from her trip," he remarked, and Ei stood up instantly.

"Is she alright?"

"Such a worry wart, sister," a woman stepped behind the butler, she has... the same face as Ei's She looks just like Ei, yet her voice is calming and gentle, whereas Ei has an intimidating and dominant voice.

"M-makoto," Ei muttered.

I looked at them, and they talked for a while. I don't mind being left out; after all, her sister has returned. The butler offered me a cup of tea, which I enjoy.

"Thank you,"

"You're welcome, lady Miko," he said. "In fact, thank you for becoming friends with my young master here; she was all alone when her friends left her,"

"I see,"

"I'm sure you're feeling... overwhelmed in this circumstance; after all, you're surrounded by vampires, and the king of all vampires is only resting in his chambers,"

Well, what he said is quite true, but I trust Ei.

"I do," I said. "But I trust Ei," I chuckled.

He smiled sweetly at me, as if he were Ei's father, proud that Ei had made a friend. "I hope your friendship will last forever," he said as he bowed and left the library.

I looked at the two sisters, who were catching up and telling stories. I watched as Ei smiled, the most priceless smile in the world. It was really.... beautiful. It was real, not fake like what she usually wears.

Friendship, you say? I wonder if I'll just treat her as a friend.

Ei looked both at me and at her sister. "Makoto, this is Yae Miko from the famed vampire hunters' family back then, and also my dearest friend,"

Dearest friend

"Ah, Yae Miko, I've heard of you," she said. "In Ei's letters," she grinned, and Ei flushed and looked away, embarrassed.

"I must admit, your family back then was a real handful," she said. "Killed a lot of my kind, which I don't mind,"

"I've heard of you as well, just from earlier," I replied.

She burst out laughing. "What kind of story did my sister tell you?"

"In terms of how you personally trained her,"

"Ah, yes, the good old days," she said.

"Good old days my ass, you were rather harsh on me," Ei scoffed.

"At least you've become much stronger than me, and it's all because of me," Makoto grinned.

They really have a healthy relationship between sisters. Now, I feel bad for Scaramouche.

"Ei talks about you so... fondly, so I'm wondering if you two have anything... possibly special?" she asked with a smile.

I tried to remain cool, but I admit that I had feelings for her. But what about now? I'm not sure. "I'm flattered Ei mentions me in her letters, but we don't have anything special, we're just friends," I explained.

"Y-yeah, sister, we're just friends," Ei chuckled. "All right, I still have to entertain my guest here; you may see father in his chambers; we'll follow you immediately after I show her the castle,"

"OK, have fun!" Makoto said. "Ah, please be with Ei at all times, you never know who the vampires here are, they could attack you," she said as she walked away.

"Don't worry about her, I'll protect you," Ei replied. "Shall we go?" she said, taking my hand in hers.

"Yeah, let's go,"

Despite the fact that the term "friends" made my chest clench. I just shrugged it off, because we're just friends.
