chapter 21

my ears were ringing and all i could see was blurry figures. every time i took a breath, smoke would get in my lungs, causing me to choke. my vision slowly started to get back to normal. i immediately thought of one thing.

where's billie?

i slowly got on my feet and grabbed onto the chair i was sitting at. i felt an instant grab on my shoulder and a muffled shout.

"kai! kai are you okay?"

i look over and see that it's cody checking on me. there's a slash on his right temple with blood trickling down his face.

i look around and notice people, celebrities i should say, running out of the arena and screaming. the side of the building is caught on fire and half of it was blown off by an explosion. ashes and smoke filled the air.

i'm regaining my hearing and look back towards him. i nod and tell him that i'm alright.

"you're bleeding. we need to get you help." he said.

i felt extreme pain on the side of my face and back. i touch my face and notice that i'm bleeding on my left side, my back also.

i look on the floor next to cody, and there lays finneas and billie. one of our body guards is aiding finneas, while maggie is wiping billies face.

finneas regains consciousness, i run over to billie and drop to my knees.

"billie?! baby wake up. please wake up." i say, as i take her pulse and see if she's breathing.

luckily, i felt a pulse and felt her breathing.

instantly, she gasps and shoots up. her eyes land on mine.

"what happened?" she asks, grabbing my face.

"it was brandon, billie. it was fucking brandon." i say.

* 4 hours earlier *

"you should wear suits more often, you look so fine right now" billie said.

we're on our way to the grammys and we have everyone in the car all dressed up. i wore a red and black gucci outfit, while billie is wearing a nice black deconstructed trench coat. marissa is wearing a blue suit, matching claudia. while finneas is wearing a purple suit.

"so i'm not fine all the time?" i asked billie, with mockery.

billie was about to reply until her phone started ringing. she picked it up and said, "it's steve".

"hello?" she answers.

"i wasn't planning on it, but what is the big issue with it if i did? it's already a rumor that me and them are dating" she said a moment after.

i turn behind to finneas, "do you ever gonna think that steve is going to let us confirm somehow? i mean i know that him and brandon are trying to put a end to me and billie." i asked him silently.

he leaned forward to talk low, "probably not, but i think that you guys should do it anyways." he said with a smile.

"you guys are the cutest and everyone knows that. he needs to suck it up and realize that you two lovebirds  are meant for eachother." claudia says.

i smile at them and look back at billie right as she hangs up, "he doesn't want us to make it seem that we are dating, or that we confirm it" billie says.

"man this is annoying. honestly baby, i think that we should do whatever we want. i know he's your manager but he's also tryna break us apart. we don't have to kiss or anything like that but we could still take pictures together." i say to her, putting my hand on her thigh.

"fuck steve and his bullshit, hell yeah we're gonna take pictures together" she said, putting her hand on mine.

we arrive at the red carpet and cody comes our van, and so does kyle.

"since we're dealing with the whole brandon situation right now, we're doubling our security with my most trusted guys. i'll be giving kai an earpiece, along with finneas. billie i would give you one but i only got four and that's to communicate with my guys. kai or finneas, keep billie posted if there's anything going on. have fun guys." he said, handing me a earpiece, then leaving the van.

kyle sat next to me and said, "keep me posted as well. i'll be sitting next to you and billie the whole time."

"i gotchu." i said. i put in the earpiece and heard "kai, can you hear me?"

"yes, i copy" i say.

"alright, let's get out. i'm gonna be with my guys going into the arena and keeping an eye out. kai don't answer me anymore. if there's someone stalking you then they can tell that you're communicating with us" cody said into the earpiece.

"copy that." i said, i kissed billie and told everyone in the car, "alright. let's go"

i slide the door open and step out of the car, i turn around and held out my hand for billie so she can get out. she takes it and steps out of the car.

me and billie walk side by side, i turn around and see  billie's family, team, marissa, and kyle walking behind us. i glance at steve and he doesn't look too happy.

the paparazzis immediately started taking pictures and asking questions, we smile at everyone and go to the area we take pictures at.

"you go first" billie told me.

i nod at billie and go stand in front of the people taking pictures.

"kai over here!"

"right here kai!"

"kai!"

as soon as i finished up, i walked over to the side and let billie take pictures. i was admiring her look until a reporter came up to me, "kai, do you think we can ask you a couple questions?" she asks me.

of fucking course. right as i'm admiring my girlfriend.

"yes of course" i say with a smile.

i walk over to the camera with the reporter and she immediately got to asking questions.

"kai i'm loving your outfit. what are you wearing?" she asks me.

"thank you! it's a gucci outfit. i love this brand so much" i say.

"that's amazing, how does it feel to be one of the youngest singer ever to have a album that has been number 1? you're like one of the most famous people in the world right now." she asks.

"it honestly feels great. i've always wanted to release an album. i truly couldn't be more happy about how popular the album got. i didn't think it would get this much listeners." i say.

"i'm happy that you're a very succeeding person. now tell me kai, we have all been seeing you and billie eilish together a lot recently, and she even kissed you on stage. what can you say about that?" she asks me.

aaaaand of course this question comes up

"honestly, i'm not gonna speak a whole lot on that subject, but i can say this. billie is a very talented singer and it has been great performing with her. she's a really great person" i say.

"are you guys gonna release a song together?" she asks me.

"that right there is a million dollar question. i don't even know an answer to that. i know we both want to focus on our own music careers when it comes to people featured in songs" i say.
