chapter 27

"your call has been forwarded to an automatic voice message system" my phone said when my mom didn't pick up.

"fuck, she's not answering." i say.

i opened up messages and texted her to call me as soon as possible.

"she's not gonna answer, obviously." marissa said.

everyone came to me and billies room to talk about the video that was just posted. i pace around the room, wanting to throw my phone at the window. that video is gonna go around the internet like crazy.

"we'll do you think that she knows that we know?" billie asks.

"i don't know, i mean i guess so. i need to confront her about this but i have no clue where she is" i said.

"you know what you should do?" claudia spoke up.

"what?" i asked.

"you should text her saying you need to talk about marissa and that's it's important, so that you guys can meet up. i've done with before with my mom and it worked out." she says.

"yes, you should do that, but don't get on topic right away" billie said.

"okay, yeah i'll do that right now" i said, i then looked at marissa, "honestly marissa, i wanna bring you with but at the same time i don't want to put you in danger of anything."

"i wont be, we can have security undercover at wherever we meet, we can go out to eat or something" she says.

"i wanna be there. i can be in disguise or something." billie says.

"no." me and finneas say.

"why not?" she asks.

"people are gonna know it's you, it's like people always know when there's a celebrity around." i said.

"fine." she says, walking away towards the bathroom.

"how about i wear a mic?" i ask to everyone.

"you should, just so we know you're okay" maggie says.

"alright, let me text her." i said.

i texted my mom that i needed to talk to her as soon as i can because it's about marissa, and i bet she would answer as soon as she could.

"alright guys," i said after i sent the message, "can we get back to this tomorrow? it's already late and i'm tired as shit." i said.

"for sure" finneas says, when everyone was walking out, he stayed behind and came up to me, giving me a hug, "you know, kai, i think you're truly one of the best people i've ever met."

i hugged him back and said, "thank you finneas, so are you. you have a really kind and big heart."

he lets me go, "i hope that you and billie stay together forever, i've never seen her so happy and close with a person before" he says.

"i plan on being with her, i love making her happy. it makes me so happy" i said.

"she truly loves you" he said.

an uncontrollable smile showed on my face and i said, "i've never loved someone the way that i love her"

"you're the best kai" he says, before telling me goodnight and leaving the room.

i turn to the bathroom that billie went in and knocked on the door, "baby?" i asked.

"come in" i hear her muffled voice say.

i open the door and she's sitting on the floor next to the shower, crying.

"oh baby," i say, i walk towards her and kneel down on my knees right in front of her, "what's wrong?"

"i just wish that all of this could go away. i don't want you to get hurt to the point that i lose you" she says, looking at me with her glossy blue eyes.

i put my hands on each side of her face and wipe away her tears, "baby listen to me. you're not gonna lose me. i'm going nowhere. we're gonna get away from this someday and make sure that he's put away. i'm not gonna let anything happen to us, i promise."

she holds out her pinky, "pinky?"

i wrap my pinky around hers and we lock it, "pinky promise."

i woke up to the sound of my phone ringing, as i reach over to grab it, i feel a weight on my stomach. i look down and billie is laying her head on my stomach with her arms wrapped around my waist.

i hope all of my nights are like this

i pick up my phone and realize the my mom is calling me back, finally.

"hello?" i answer.

"hey, what's wrong with marissa?" she asks, going immediately to the point.

billie takes in a deep breath and opens her eyes, realizing i'm on the phone.

"oh, yeah i need to talk to you about her. do you think that we can meet up for lunch or dinner? i have a bunch of meetings and can't really be on my phone today. i can make some time for lunch though for sure" i said to her.

"umm...yeah i guess we can do that. is she going to be with you?" she asks.

"yes, she will be." i said.

"okay, text me where you want to go to eat, i have to get going." she said, before i heard her hang up.

"was that your mom?" billie asked, right as i set my phone down.

"yea, i'm meeting up with her somewhere for lunch. i'm gonna bring marissa with me." i told her.

she moves positions so now she's laying her whole body on top of mine, with her head buried in my neck, "i heard you were going to wear a mic" she said as she got settled.

"yes i will be, and you'll be able to hear every word that we say." i told her.

"i wish that i could come with you." she says.

"i know baby, me too. but i don't want her to act all weird, for all i know she threw the brick at you and not me." i told her.

"true. to be honest she has an arm" she says.

"i know. that kinda shocked me, plus she's as tall as you" i say.

she moved her head up and looked at me in the eyes, "what is that supposed to mean?" she asks.

"...nothing" i say.

"you think i can't throw cause i'm short?" she asks.

"nah" i reply.

she instantly straddled my lap and said, "you know, just cause i'm short doesn't mean i can't do things"

"mmmmm, i don't know" i reply.

"you're not even that much taller than me" she says.

"you're not wrong actually" i reply.

she gets up and jumps off the bed, "cmon, let's go do some training. i'll show you that i can throw things"

i watch her skip to the bathroom and close the door behind her, she loves that we train together now or she loves to watch me train.

finneas was right, i think she does truly love me
