chapter 23

*now*

"it was brandon, billie. it was fucking brandon." i say.

i look over at marissa and realize that she's hurt too.

"marissa! are you okay?" i ask as i run over to her.

marissa instantly gives me a hug and she says, "we gotta get out of here if he's here. and we need to get you to a hospital."

"i can't go to a hospital, i'll have a doctor come and help me" i say. i turn over and see if everyone else is okay. it looks like everyone else is shaken up with a couple bruises, but not seriously hurt.

i look over at cody. "cody, get my sister and everyone else out of here RIGHT NOW. he's targeting me. i can't be around you guys."

"no. not happening, you're coming with us." he says, picking up marissa.

i heard a sound of a gunshot, and instant pain in my hip. i fall to the ground and hear billie screaming.

"GET DOWN" someone yelled.

we all crouch behind a wall and some tables to find cover. all i could feel was the pain on my body. my vision starts to get blurry. then it all went black.

i woke up to the sound of a machine beeping, and a slight snoring. i open my eyes and realize that i'm in a hotel room, billie is laying on the bed with me with one of her hands on my wrapped stomach. i look over to the machine that's tracking my blood pressure and heart beat.

i hear marissa's voice speak up, "hey kai, how are you doing?" she walks over and grabs my hand.

"i'm alright, is everyone okay?" i ask her.

"as far as i know, you and cody are the only one seriously hurt." she says.

billie takes in a deep breath and wakes up.

"goodmorning sunshine" i say, with a smile.

"hey baby," she says with a deeper morning voice, which is insanely attractive, "how are you?"

"i'm alright. i wanna get out of here and beat up that son of a bitch brandon" i say.

"we will baby." she says, giving me a kiss on the cheek, "but you need to rest first"

"yeah yeah," i say, my thoughts suddenly go to cody. "what happened to cody?"

"he got shot. it was more worse than yours. but you guys are lucky" she says.

"is your family okay? it didn't seem like they were seriously injured" i ask her.

"yes baby, we're all okay" she says.

"i wanna see him" i tell her.

billie drove me to the hospital, and when we were pulling into the lot, i realized billie had her hand on my thigh.

"soooo what? you the man in the relationship now?" i ask, laughing.

"you know it, i could pull it off." she says.

we both laugh and put on all black clothing and a mask, with a hat so we try not to get recognized.

even though i think everyone in the world knows i got injured and shot at the grammys.

we walk in with a security guard and ask to see cody. when we eventually get to the room, my heart drops.

cody got shot in the chest, surprisingly he survived after immediate surgery. he had a concussion and multiple cuts from the explosion.

just because i'm in these peoples lives, they're getting injured, especially billie.

i felt insane guilt and i felt a tear go down my cheek.

"hey kai" cody says.

"cody," i start to say. i walk towards him and put my hand on the top of his, "how you doing man?"

"i'm surviving," he says, i think he noticed my mood change and he said this to billie, "can i speak to kai for a second please?"

"yes of course" billie says, she grabs my hand and kisses my cheek.

billie walks out of the door and then cody speaks up, "what's wrong?" he asks.

"this is all my fault. all because you guys are in my life. especially billie, i don't want her to get hurt anymore than she has." i say.

"don't say that, this isn't your fault. this is a crazy ex that she has. brandon just needs to suck it up" he says.

"but the reason he's doing all this is because me and billie are dating. we like eachother. and i love her, and it's dangerous now." i say, starting to cry more.

"hey man, come here" he says, holding out his arms.

i walk into his arms and hug him.

"this is NOT your fault. stop telling yourself that. i honestly bet that if you and billie didn't meet till you guys released music, you would have crossed paths anyways and fallen in love." he says before letting me go.

i wipe my tears and ask him, "do you really think she loves me?"

"yes, i was actually watching the interview of billie and one of the reporters, when you walked away to go talk to someone. she kept looking at you and she was trying her hardest to say that you guys aren't dating. and the way she looks at you kai....i wish a guy would look at me like that. that's true love."

"how is he?" billie asks, as i step out of the room.

"he's doing good, he'll be out in about two days." i said.

"can we talk real quick?" i ask her, i signaled that i wanted to talk in a family bathroom so it could be more private.

"yes baby, of course." she says. she grabbed my hand and led me to the bathroom. i closed the door behind her and hopped up on the counter.

i took a deep breath before i spoke, "i'm so sorry baby, for everything that's going on." i told her.

"babe, it's alright. none of this is your fault. it's his." she says.

"i know, but everything was going fine until i entered your life. you didn't have to worry about your ex hurting you or your family and now he did. and i feel like it's all my fault because i entered your life." i told her.

"kai" she said, boldly. she steps in between my legs and sets each hand on each side of my hip. "i want you to listen to me. this isn't your fault. this is steve's, i believe he persuaded brandon into trying to have us back together, but i'm not 100% sure. but i know for a fact this isn't your fault." she says.

"i know, but i don't want you guys to get hurt when i'm around. he specifically said he wants you back and wants me gone. but the thing is tho billie is that i don't wanna leave you." i said.

"i love you, kai. i don't wanna leave you either. whatever you go through, we go through it together" she says. her eyes start to get watery and her face is blushing.

"i love you, billie." i said, then grabbed her face and kissed her, hard. she immediately kisses back and pulls me into her as much as she could.
