"You did not!" Ara gasped as Mia finished telling her and Leah just exactly what she and Jacob did the previous night. After Jacob going down on her, he carried Mia to bed and left her there alone. Mia woke up dissapointed to find he did not sleep with her, but instead Leah was in the spot next to her.
The girls woke up bright and early that day, all three of them wanted a girls day and headed into town to a nail salon. "I'm glad we don't eat at that table." Leah muttered in disgust. "So, are you guys back together?" Ara asked, her eyebrows raising in amusment.
"I don't know, I think? I clearly told him I wanted to take things slow and last night was definitely not slow." She grumbled, her annoyance to herself pounding against her head. "I just don't get it, it's like no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to fight what's there." She huffed once more throwing her head back as the woman below her finished up with her feet. "I mean it makes sense why you can't." Ara stated.
"What do you mean?"
"Think about it. For as along as we've known you both had been fighting the bond. And when your mated it's ten times worse. That's why Embry and I can only go three days without seeing each other." Ara explained.
"That's a load of bull." Leah scoffed leaning back into her seat. "No think about it...Mia when you and Jacob completed the bond, what did it feel like?" She asked in which Mia shifted feeling a sense of awkwardness while her face heated up. "Not in that way you weirdo! I mean emotionally."
She sat there in silence, thinking back to how her and Jacob first had sex. She remembered feeling a sense of power wanting to be unleash. And part of it did, for the both of them. "It was like...being set free after being caged for so long."
"From what I know, none of us had a problem with giving into the bond, other than Sam and Emily. It's like once you unleash something there's no going back, and you two being separated for so long in a way it's like the ancestors are punishing you two." Mia didn't say anything else after that. We're the ancestors really punishing her for running away? Perhaps that was the reason why she was in pain for so long.. Mia found her self twirling the end of her hair thinking that perhaps she should cut it out with taking it slow nonsense and just give in. And the more Mia twirled her hair the more she realized how heavy it felt.
Her eyes drifted to the ends as she thought to herself. It was time to let go.
Mia headed straight to the main house, the girls by her side as they walked through the front door. "Is it supposed to feel this light?" She asked as she ran her fingers through the ends of her hair. After their trip to the nail salon, Mia told the girls her idea of cutting her hair. Of course they all supported the idea and went with her to do the big chop. Her once long hair that fell to her waist had been cut to just under her chin. "Yeah, it feels awkward at first but you get used to it." Leah stated.
Both Leah and Ara had cut their hair when they first phased. Sam stated it was traditions first time shapeshifter did so since they were letting go the old them and allowing the new person they were to be reborn. Mia help both the girls do it. And ironically they both took the first snips to her hair before the stylist went to work. Her neck felt cold as she tried to get used to her hair, to the new person she was becoming.
The girls made their way to the living room, to where they boys sat watching the soccer game on television. They didn't noticed the girls arrive until Ara sat next to Embry to kiss him. "Where did you guys go?" Seth asked as Leah sat next to Ara and Him. "Girls day." Mia noticed Jacob wasn't in the room, her face falling to a frown.
"Where's Jake?" She asked to which both Embry and Seth turned their attention to Mia, mouths dropping wide open in shock. "You cut your hair?" Embry said his eyes still wide as he took in the sight. "Yeah, does it look bad?" Mia asked as she suddenly felt self conscious. "No, it doesn't." She heard behind her. Mia turned around to find Jacob standing behind her in the doorway. She starred up at him as he closed the gap between the two, his hand coming up to touch the end of her hair. "Do you like it?" She asked hoping that she may not regret this decision.
Jacob smirked and dropped his hand to her waist pulling Mia in close. He dipped his head to gently kiss her neck which resulted in Seth gagging and Leah muttering gross while they watched. Mia felt Jacob smile against her neck before pulling away. "I love it," he finally said and in which it made Mia smile as well.
"You two are disgusting," Embry grimaced, suddenly feeling triggered by the sight. Mia giggled pulling away from Jacob. "I was thinking we all head up to the mountains today." She stated. Seth perked up excited, "I'm in!"
Mia frowned in confusion, "I haven't even said what we were gonna do today."
"I don't care, I'm in. Those two are boring." He dated motioning to Jacob and Embry who glared at him. "What did you have in mind?" Leah asked.
"There's this cliff deep in the mountains Keyni and I go to a lot, I figured why not do some cliff jumping like we did back home." The girls nodded while Seth proceeded to get up from his seat. "I'm gonna get changed." He announced, and then the girls and Embry followed after him. She turned around to find Jacob still waiting for her. "You coming?" He asked.
"I need to email my dad, I'll be there in a sec." Jacob nodded, turning and leaving Mia alone. Mia hasn't talked to her dad much since she got here, she wanted to see how he was doing without her and her sister being home for this long. She walked to the kitchen where she knew her laptop would be. And she found her grandmother washing dishes.
"Hey Nana." She greeted, taking a seat at the table , pulling her laptop close to her. "Hey, I didn't hear you come in." She stated turning aorund to look at Mia. She flinched in shock when she took in the sight of Mia's hair. "What?" Mia asked.
"Nothing, it's just for moment you looked like your mom." Mia had a small smile on her face. "Really?" She asked hopefull. Elenora nodded, leaning back into the seat. "Your mother often kept her hair short when she was in high school. It wasn't until she had your brother when she started growing out her hair." Mia fiddled with her hair.
"Why did she start growing out her hair?"
"Your mother rebelled quite a bit when she was growing up. Keeping her hair short was her way of saying screw the ancestors." Eleanora chuckled at the memory of her radical daughter. "For a long time your mother couldn't accept who she was...longing to just be normal. That is until she got pregnant."
"We changed her?" Mia asked.
"In a way yes. She realized how important it was to stay true to who you are. She wanted to pass down our ways to you and your siblings." Mia smiled, a flash of light flew across her eyes. She flicked her eyes to the screen of her laptop. There in the right hand corner was a email from California Institute of the Arts. Mia clicked on the email, knowing full and well she had been accepted to the school back in June.
