"I'm afraid I have to go," Keira said, Cami sitting by Kieran and waiting for him to wake.
"What happens next after he wakes?" she asked.
"He'll be in transition, craving blood, but I'll be back before then."
"He's gonna be furious with me. He's a priest. I turned him into a vampire. What kind of desperate move is that?"
"Well, you know as well as I do, love. He'll never go through with it. Turning him wasn't the goal. It was to give you a chance to say good-bye," Keira said. "Transitioning, most of the time, blocks out magical hexes and side effects. He'll be in his normal state. You can have a proper farewell."
"Can you stay a little longer?" Cami asked. Keira smiled and nodded.
A few hours later, the girls were standing by Kieran's bed when he gasped and sat up.
"Cami, what happened? The hex... I could feel it, like a living thing inside of me," Kieran said. he looked at his hand, where the hex mark- was gone. "It's gone!"
Cami started crying happy tears and hugged him. Then Kieran noticed his other hand, where he had bitten off his thumb.
"Oh my god!" he exclaimed. Keira smiled.
"i can reattach it, if you want," she said.
"I bit my thumb off?" Kieran asked incredulously.
"Yes, you've had a trying day, Father. How best to break it to you? It appears the hex was broken by your death," Keira said.
"Back up. I died? For how long?" Kieran asked.
Keira rocked her head side to side. "Few hours, give or take."
I'm sorry. I just couldn't lose you, not like that. I made Keira give you her blood. You're in transition."
Kieran nodded slowly with a solemn expression. "I see. So the devil has a deal for me, after all."
"Uncle Kieran... that hunger you feel, it'll only grow stronger."
"I know how it works."
Keira but into the conversation. "Then you will soon know if you do not feed, you will die.."
"I know if that's the choice that I have to make, I'm dead already. Please leave me with my niece. I'd like a private moment to talk with her," Kieran said seriously. Keira nodded.
"Thank you for today," Cami said as Keira walked out and outside the church, calling Klaus.
"Sister," he said. "How's the priest?"
"Dead," Keira said.
"What!?!"
"Well, more like, in between dead, alive, and undead."
"Oh. I see, you sired him."
"Actually, he's choosing not to complete his transition. The hex is gone, but you know him. He wouldn't become the demon that is a vampire. I gave him blood so he could choose his death and so he could say goodbye."
"How very noble of you. I'll try to be there soon."
Keira suddenly heard Kieran get out of his bedroom, which he had said he wouldn't. Then she had a bad feeling that some magic couldn't be erased so easily.
"I think you might want to be here sooner, Nik," she said.
"Why is that?" Klaus asked. Just then, Keira heard Cami scream.
