THE next day, Cassius frowned when he heard shouting from the kitchen as soon as he walked downstairs. He rushed over to see what was wrong. "What's going on?"

Ginny immediately gave him the daily prophet in her hands as an answer.

Cassius looked at it, starting to read it; 'Regulus Black: the real reason you-know-who is dead?
you've read that right, dear readers! it turns out, Regulus Black is the person that destroyed horcruxes nobody knew even existed during the first wizarding war!'

Cassius' eyes widened. He stopped reading and made eye contact with his father, who was holding onto the kitchen table as if his life depended on it.

Dumbledore walked in, making everybody quieten down. "They are after you and Cassius, too." He said, eyes on Regulus. "I applaud you for doing what you did. Not even I knew he had horcruxes. You are a brave man, Regulus. But you now have to keep yourself and your son safe."

"Is Cassius going to be safe in Hogwarts?" Harry asked with a frown of concern, looking at Dumbledore.

"As long as I am there and so is Severus, Cassius will be safe. But it is a lie to say that the Slytherins won't try to attack him or anything."

"They'll try to kill him!" Harry's eyes widened. "You've got to change his House!"

"No way," Cassius cut in, making Harry finally look at him. "I am not changing my House. I am a Slytherin."

Harry looked at him as if he was dumb. "They will try to kill you, Cassius."

"Try," said Cassius. "They won't be able to actually kill me."

"Is he dumb?!" Harry looked at Regulus for support, who let out a sigh.

"It is Cassius' choice, Harry." Dumbledore said, looking at Cassius. "Do you wish to change Houses or stay in Slytherin?"

Cassius opened his mouth to answer, but stopped when he noticed the worry and desperation in Harry's eyes. Then, he said, "Put the sorting hat on my head one more time. It can decide."

Dumbledore nodded, motioning for the Weasleys to go into the living room, giving the Blacks and Harry some privacy.

When they were all out, Dumbledore said, "I will be back with the sorting hat in an hour." and walked out.

Sirius looked at his brother, swallowing. "You really destroyed his horcruxes?"

Regulus nodded, eyes on the table. "I did."

"Why did you even become a death eater?" Harry asked the question he was wondering about, looking at the man.

Regulus finally looked up, pursing his lips. Then, he replied, "Sirius left when I was only fourteen. The only people I had left were mother and Kreacher, my house elf. I couldn't go to a friend's house and run away like Sirius did as all my friends believed in Voldemort's cause. Slowly, they all became death eaters. I wanted to become one, too. Especially because it made my parents proud."

"Did you believe in his cause as well?" Harry asked.

Regulus hesitated, then shrugged. "I thought his cause was bringing purebloods to the top, not killing everyone who defied him and muggle borns and everything like that. I realized how evil and inhumane he was. My last straw was when he took my house elf to a cave and made him test a potion he used to guard one of his horcruxes. I made my house elf take me back to that cave and drank the potion."

"What happened next, Reg?" Sirius asked his younger brother with teary eyes, regretting the fact that he wasn't there for his brother when he needed someone the most.

"I almost drowned." Regulus answered. "There were inferi at the bottom of the lake surrounding the horcruxes. If it weren't for Kreacher's house elf powers, I would have died."

Cassius, who was quiet the whole time, rubbed his eyes. "How did they find out?" He asked the question everyone was thinking.

Regulus shook his head. "I do not know."

When Dumbledore was back with the sorting hat, they all waiting as the sorting hat stood on Cassius' head, muttering things only Cassius could here.

"Everything is the same, except for thoughts about a certain Gryffindor.." said the sorting hat.

If Cassius could glare at the hat, he would. Instead, he glared at the table.

"Slytherin!"

"There you go," said Cassius, giving the hat back to Dumbledore.

"He is a Slytherin through and through." The sorting hat said, looking at them all.

"How can he be kept safe?" Harry asked with a hint of disappointment and eyes filled with worry.

"He can spend nights sleeping in the room of requirements." Dumbledore said as a solution. "Only the people that have Cassius' permission can walk in there and find him. Others, that try to get in the room of requirements, will go into their own version of what they want. Even if they try looking for Cassius, they won't find him unless Cassius wants to be found."

Regulus nodded. "That is a good idea." He said, then looked at his son. "Be careful, Cass."
