IT was September 1st, meaning that it was the day the students would go back to Hogwarts. Cassius, who had walked into the Slytherin compartments, noticed the dirty looks he was getting from the kids of death eaters— some of them even death eaters themselves.

He thought for a second, not knowing if he should go to the Gryffindor compartments to his boyfriend or stay here.

He let out a scoff and opened one of the empty Slytherin compartments, walking in and sitting down.

He was a Slytherin. And even if the other Slytherins didn't want him there, he would still be there whether they liked it or not.

When the compartment door opened, Cassius watched as Blaise walked in and put the door's curtain down so that nobody outside of the compartment would be able to see them.

"Draco told me to tell you that he's not allowed to be seen with you. Same with Theo." Blaise said, looking at the boy in sympathy.

Ignoring the pang of hurt his heart felt, Cassius merely nodded, his face void of any emotion. "I take it they joined the death eaters?"

Blaise nodded. "Yeah."

"And why aren't you with them?"

"I can be with whoever I want, Cassius. And right now I want to be with you." The boy answered, laying down with a hand under his head. "How's your father taking it?"

"He's stressed and worried."

"Did he actually destroy the horcruxes?"

"Yes."

Blaise hummed. "You know you're in a lot of danger, right?"

Cassius let out a sigh. "I know, Blaise."

"And that there's a war coming." Blaise said, looking to the side and staring at the boy. "You have to be very careful. The death eaters are less powerful without you-know-who but still powerful enough."

"Not if Dumbledore stops it."

"Will he, though?"

Cassius didn't reply, choosing to stare out of the window instead.

The next day, Cassius— who was in the room of requirements— looked around his room, searching for his Slytherin robe.

When he found it, he put it on and walked out of the room, starting to walk to class.

After a few minutes, when he reached his first class— Defense Against the Dark Arts— he hesitated, but then walked in.

Avoiding eye contact with the students, Cassius sat down next to Blaise— who acted like he didn't notice the dark bags under Cassius' eyes.

Their teacher, Professor Lupin, started, "Today, we will be learning about non-verbal spells."

When class was over, instead of going to his next class, Cassius sat down in the courtyard— skipping classes instead.

He took out a book from his bag and started reading, but his attention was caught a few minutes later when someone sat down next to him.

"Why aren't you in class?" asked Remus Lupin, looking at the boy in concern.

Cassius didn't answer, shrugging instead.

"How is Regulus?"

"Fine, I guess." Cassius mumbled.

"And Sirius?"

"Also fine."

"And you?"

"Fine."

"Really?" Remus raised an eyebrow in doubt. "You don't seem fine."

Cassius merely shrugged. "People wanting to kill you does that to you."

Remus looked sympathetic. "Are the other Slytherins bothering you?"

"Other than giving me sneers and glares, they haven't done anything."

The man hummed. "Don't care about them, Cassius. Start taking care of yourself. That's the best way to deal with it."

"I guess so," mumbled Cassius.

"And do not continue to skip classes."

"I'll try, Professor Lupin."
