WHEN it was finally September 1st, Cassius was sitting in one of the Slytherin compartments with his friends on the train to Hogwarts for their fifth year.
"Is it true you went to Diagon Alley with Potter?" Blaise suddenly asked, breaking the silence.
"And if I did?"
"I distinctly remember it was you who closed the door on his face the first time we were on this train."
"He's my uncle's godson. I'm bound to get along with him at some point."
Blaise rolled his eyes, ignoring the look he got from Theo.
Draco, meanwhile, bit into a green apple and chewed. When he swallowed the piece, he said, "We have to train a lot for quidditch this season. Which reminds me— who's captain?"
Cassius pulled out the Quidditch captain badge from his pocket. "Me."
"Less focus on quidditch, more on O.W.Ls. Seriously, guys." Theo said with a shake of his head.

As all the plates cleared in the great hall after dinner, everyone looked at Dumbledore, who stood up and started talking— welcoming everyone for another year at Hogwarts.
Cassius' eyes stopped on a woman at the teacher's table, who was wearing all pink. He leaned to Draco, subtly whispering, "Who's that?"
"I'm not really sure why she's here, but she works in the ministry. Fudge sent her to keep an eye on Dumbledore."
"Why?"
"No clue."
Cassius frowned in thought, then finally snapped back to reality when Dumbledore motioned towards the woman, "—and please give a warm welcome to Dolores Umbridge, who will be supervising many of the classes."
"A supervisor?" scoffed Theo, looking scandalized. "What do we need that for?"
"She'll get rid of professor Lupin." Pansy Parkinson whispered to the group, eyes on the woman. "She hates half breeds."
Remus Lupin— who had been their Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for years.
"Shut your mouth, Parkinson."
Pansy glared at Cassius, but didn't reply and went back to talking to her own friends.
"Do you really think she'll do that?" Theo frowned in worry. "He's a really good teacher."
"Don't let your father hear that." Blaise grumbled, looking like he was in a bad mood.
"What's got your wand in a knot?" Draco frowned in concern, looking at the boy.
Blaise didn't reply, merely rolling his eyes.

The next day, the Slytherin and Gryffindor fifth years were in DADA class, everyone trying to ignore the new 'supervisor', which wasn't working as she would cough every few seconds to get everyone's attention.
"Do you need a cough drop?" Professor Lupin finally acknowledged her with a cold tone.
Dolores Umbridge straightened up. "How long have you been teaching this class, Professor Lupin?"
"Five years."
Umbridge hummed and wrote something on the clipboard in her hands. "And do all the students know you are a werewolf?"
Cassius frowned deeply, but didn't say a word.
Harry, meanwhile, immediately stood up. "Excuse you?"
"Harry, please sit down." Professor Lupin calmly said, then looked at Umbridge and nodded. "Yes, they do."
"Don't you think of the students that are afraid of werewolves? It's highly selfish of you to teach here."
"What is she saying?" Theo whispered to Blaise with a frown, who wore the same expression as him.
Remus Lupin shook his head. "I take Wolfsbane before every transformation and spend that night away from everyone else. May I go back to teaching now?"
Dolores Umbridge ignored him and looked at Harry. "My office, mister Potter." She said and walked out of the class.
Harry groaned and stood up, following her, not noticing Cassius' concerned eyes on him.
