Days had gone by and the lonely princess was huddled in her bedroom, staring at the portrait. She had not gone out to look for food in fear of someone catching her and chasing her away from her home. She was delirious from the lack of nutrition, the pounding in her head too loud to not realise that she was not alone in her bedroom anymore.
"Hello?" the princess looked, tears gathering in her eyes as she saw her love smile down at her.
"Five? You came back..." The boy frowned at the woman, seeing the state she was in and feared that she would die. He ignored the odd name the woman had called him and set down some clothes and food for her. The princess looked down at the items and looked back up to see it wasn't her love and scowled, recognising the boy from a few days back. "Go away!" The boy shook his head, hands on his hips as the woman in front of him turned her head to stare at the royal portrait.
"I'm not leaving until you eat." he huffs out and he saw the woman frown.
"You sound just like him too..." the woman mumbled sadly and the boy knew she was talking about the man in the portrait.
"Who are you?"
"No one." the princess snapped back and the boy huffed in annoyance.
"You don't seem like a nobody. You have a crown. Are you a princess?" The boy eagerly asked.
"No." the woman huffs out, staring at the crown she wore that night shattered into pieces against the wall and the boy looked over. He frowned sadly at the beautiful crown that was shattered like broken snowflakes.
"You were, weren't you." The boy says softly and the woman stood up, her once beautiful lace dress now bloody and discoloured. The boy saw her leave like a sad ghost, her dress fluttering behind her as she disappeared. It was so quiet that the boy wondered if the woman was real and he left. The princess watched from a window as the boy left, looking back a few times and waving at the princess who glared at him.
This was not the last time he visited.
He snuck out to the mansion every night to visit the princess, bringing different items, clothes and food with him to keep the woman healthy. "You're back." the woman sneered at the boy but he ignored her and set down the food and clothes. He was ecstatic to see that the woman changed out of the bloody dress into something warmer. She looked healthier than the last time he saw her and he knew she was eating.
"Of course I am! I have so many questions to ask you." The woman sighed and her shoulders slumped as if she had given up on pushing the boy out from her life. "Are you princess (y/n)?" the boy waited, noticing how the woman froze at the name and he knew he was correct.
