I have always been amazed by dreams and their connection to the waking world. Part of the fascination came from Joseph the Dreamer in the Book of Genesis. We could understand the story as an illustration of how God works in the world. How dreams are used as a way to communicate with the Divine, or a way to communicate with the deepest parts of ourselves. Those part of our subconscious desires and fears from the waking world we constantly try to push away.

Growing up, I learned to get accustomed to my recurring and oddly vivid dreams that I started believing that dreams are not entirely coincidental.

Most of these dreams were the classic falling from a high place, falling teeth to being chased by unknown figured I couldn't even begin to describe. But most remarkably was this one recurring dream...

I would woke up with a strange heavy feeling bearing in my chest. Looking around, I will find myself laying on a pile of rotting dewy leaves. The tall overgrown trees in the forest covered the sky hiding me softly within its darkness. The moist air and stiffening atmosphere made chills run through my spine.

As if it couldn't get any worse, it would start to pour. I will quicken my pace as a loud thunder growl from a distance. Droplets of moisture will begin dripping from the leaves above the towering trees. The wind will whip up strongly, shrieking anything across its path. I would be running frantically in the hug of a white flowing dress going against the will of the strong wind.

Just when all hopes were lost I will begin to see a light peaking from a  distance through the large trunks and so I will run towards that light.

Suddenly my legs will begin to wobble and lose control. Bracing myself for the impact, I would close my eyes shut. But instead of hitting the cold and wet ground, I will be sinking to what seems to be an ocean.

The water hugging me in causing it to instantly invade my senses.

I will feel a gushing wind, pulling me in more to the depths of the ocean. Losing control of my body, slowly, I will feel numb to the water ready to succumb to its coolness.

Loud claps of thunder will begin to ring causing an extreme sense of foreboding ran through my system. Another loud bang and a ripple of thunder crackled through the sky and Before I know it the waters were pulling me deeper and deeper in with no sense of escape. Only deeper and deeper I fell all while the storm grew angrier above the surface as if keeping me safe under its cover.

I would then force my eyes open as I felt a speck of light hitting my eyelid lightly.

Just as I would open my eyes,  I will be held tight by a pair of strong arms wrapped around me midair and out of the water.

I can feel droplets of water beading and falling from his hair. He would hug me tight, burying my face in his chest. "I won't leave you again." His voice broke out and the curtain of rain passed out in a second.

The man would gently hover his hand over my face, fixing strands of hair to the back of my ears. His eyes shined looking down over me, and although the sky had just cleared, it still cannot compare to the vibrant blue eyes in front of me. Every hue of blue shined like crystal shards looking down. "I'm here now." A soft smile graced on his pale and chiseled face.

Then... there goes my consciousness making me jolt up in panic for no reason. All that I could remember was, his blue eyes, his deep blue ocean eyes.

It went on like that for years and years, me seeing him clearly and forgetting how he'd look like the moment I woke up. Until...

"You okay?" Mikhail broke. "Raine?"
