CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

There's no hiding from the thought of us,I've got ways to find you everywhere.

VALENTINA.

"Thanks for visiting the kids really enjoyed your company,"Lydia says to me.
It's been a day since our Break began,and I decided to visit Lydia and the kids.

"It's no problem really,I just really miss them you know,I can't believe this isn't my home anymore,"I reply.

"Nonsense,this will always be your home,dear and you're welcome here at any time,"Lydia says and I smile.

"Miss Valentina,are you leaving for good,"I hear a tiny voice ask.
I turn around and find Ashley, standing there.

I bend down to her level,"yes, but I'll be coming to visit you alot okay,"I say holding her tiny hands.

"I'll miss you,"she says hugging me and my heart melts.
I'll really miss these kids.
"I'll miss you too,and be a good girl,"I say kissing her forehead.
"Bye,"she says and I smile at her.

"Bye,I'll see you later,"I say.
She runs off and I'm left with Lydia again.

"I have to go now, Lydia,"I say to her when we reach the lawn.

"Alright honey,take care I'll drop off your things at your house,"she says.

"I'd appreciate that,"I say smiling.
I bid my farewell to Lydia and leave.
I'm feeling hungry so I decide,to grab some food from the diner nearby.
It's a fifteen minute walk so I decide to walk there.
I arrive and it's fairly empty just a few kids my age in one of the booths.
I decide to order a burger and some fries.
I take a seat in one of the empty booths.
"May I join you,".
I look up and I see Theo.
He's wearing some jeans and a black T-shirt.
I haven't talked to him since our last argument.
"Even if I say no,you're gonna sit anyway,"I reply.
He looks amazed by my answer but he quickly covers it up with a neutral look.

"How've you been,"he asks sitting down.

"I've been good,"I reply dryly.

"Are you still mad at me?,".

"Maybe,maybe not what's your point Mendez,".

"I just want to talk,"he says.
Honestly I've got nothing to lose at this point.

"Sure,".

"Firstly,I'm sorry for everything,I was blinded by infatuation,"Theo begins,"The thought of her got to my head,I wanted her so bad,I didn't even realize it became unhealthy,".

"I already forgave you, because in a way we were just compelled by our selfish desires,".
For some time I was mad at Theo,but I eventually realized that what he did might have been wrong,but he was coming from a place of unrequited love,a place I'm all too familiar with,it was hypocritical of me to play the victim card,it's like a sinner judging a sinner for sinning differently.

"Really,thank you Val,"he says.

"It's the least I can offer you after what I did as well,I also hope that one day you'll forgive me too,"I state.

"I was never mad at you Val,I said some things but I never meant them,I knew what it felt like to be in your shoes,the only thing I regret is walking away from you that day"he says and I offer him a half smile.

"You know Val,after thinking about it I realized I wasn't even into Alexa ,I was so in love with the idea of her,and not her,"Theo says."I know we can't erase the past, but I'd like for us to start over,".
I don't say anything,I just sit there quietly.
"Hi,I'm Theo Maxwell Mendez,final year student at Freshwood preparatory academy,"he says extending his hand and I smile.

"Valentina Everton,I go at Freshwood preparatory academy as well,"I say shaking his hand.
Since it's already late,I decide to take my meal to go.

"Let me drive you,"Theo offers as we leave the diner.

"I'll be fine...,".

"C'mon Val it's the least I can do,"

"I'll be fine really...I..,".

"Fine,if you don't let me drive you,I'll stay with you here until you leave,".Theo says.

I sigh,"fine I'll catch a ride with you,".

He leads me to his car and I get in.

"Nice car,"I compliment it.

"Thanks it's an early birthday present from my parents,"he says.

"I see,"he starts the car and we are on our way.

"Heard you have your own place now,"he says looking over at me briefly.

"Yah,207 MacMillan street,"I reply.

"Okay,"he breathes out as he makes a sharp turn.

"Have you always wanted to be an agent,"Theo asks breaking the ice.

"Yes,"I reply looking out the window.

"Really,so if you had a chance to be anything else you wouldn't take it,"he asks.

"Being an agent is the only future I've ever known, training to become one is what my whole existence is based on,my future is practically set in stone,"I say.

"I want to be an agent,not because it's the only future I've ever known, but because I love it, it's what I see myself doing for the rest of my life,is it what you see yourself doing in the next ten years Val,"he asks.

"Theo,you get to have a choice,your lifestyle allows you to have a choice,but mine doesn't,".I say.

"We all have a choice Val, because in the end choices are what we are made of,"he replies.

"In that case,others just simply have more choices than others.,"I state looking at him.

The rest of the drive is silent until we arrive at my house.
It's still dusty here and there because I have not had time to fully clean it out.
"Thanks Theo,"I say getting down.

"Wanna come inside for some juice or something,"I find myself offering.

"Nah,I'm good thanks for the offer though,"he replies."here,"he says handing me a crumpled paper.
"My number,if you ever want to talk,".
I take it and stuff it in my Jean pockets.
"If I need to,I will definitely call you,thanks for everything,"I say.

Theo drives off and I walk to the front door.

We all have a choice Val, because choices are what we are made of.
