Sunday - David's POV
Watching Brent's car slowly drive off till it was consumed by darkness hurt David. He wanted nothing more than to be there with him for the ride, to put him to bed, to even be there when he woke up! Even though he shouldn't, he felt like a failure for not being with him. He could always check up on him tomorrow, but the wait would be excruciating.
"You ready to go?" Craig appeared next to David and stepped down to stand beside him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I guess so."
"Alright. Just let me say goodbye to everyone and then I'll get you home. Wait for me in the car."
Craig turned around to walk back into Chelsea's house to bid their friends farewell. David did as he was told and slowly shuffled over to Craig's car to open the door and sit inside. The car was painfully quiet and cold, but he didn't want to turn the heating on. Everything just felt strange. He felt like he was stuck in some sort of limbo.
David's attention was drawn to the sight of Craig standing in the doorway with Damien. He narrowed his eyes in suspicion and leaned across the drivers seat to try and get a closer look at the two. It looked like the two of them were talking, but it didn't look like the normal kind of talking. Craig was laughing and looked nervous, whereas Damien looked flirtatious and leaned closer to the blond with ever word. Before David could properly assess the situation, Craig gently touched Damien's bicep and bounced down the steps to walk to his car. David hastily sat back down in his seat and tried not to look suspicious as the blond approached.
Craig opened the door and stepped inside ass first to sit down and put the keys into the ignition to start the car after he closed the door. The two didn't speak as Craig pulled off from the curb and drove through the gates to exit Chelsea's house. The car ride felt awkward as the boys were engulfed by a silence that didn't show any signs of being broken. That remained for at least 10 painfully long minutes before Craig cleared his throat to speak, causing David's head to snap to the side and look at his best friend.
"So... do you think she did it?"
"Did what?"
"Don't make me say it."
David knew what Craig was insinuating, and the thought pained and disgusted him. There was a silent agreement that they wouldn't mutter those words.
"I've never seen that look on someone's face before. She did it."
The car fell to another few minutes of uncomfortable silence. The conversation wasn't over, but neither of the boys knew how to comfortably continue it. It just didn't feel right.
"He was terrified, Craig. I don't know what she did, but she did something." That look on Chris' face was something that David wished he would never have to see again. It was gut wrenching and so... so sad.
Craig didn't respond, instead continuing to drive until he pulled up outside of David's house. The two remained in their seats for what felt like minutes before David turned to pull on the door handle to open the car door and get out to go home. Before David closed the door after he left, Craig reached out to catch his attention.
"Hey."
"What?"
"He's gonna be okay."
David processed Craig's words before nodding and saying goodbye to his best friend, patting the roof of his car to let him know he could leave. He turned around and slowly walked up the steps to his house and gripped the door handle to push it down with all of his might and step inside. Once he crossed the threshold of the door, he was met with the sight of his father standing by the stairs with a look of pure disappointment and hate on his face.
