Friday - David's POV
Two days. It's been two days since I've seen Chris and I feel absolutely awful. I'm completely drained of all my energy. I haven't seen him since Wednesday and I know it's because he's avoiding me. I still hang out with our new group and as far as I'm aware Chris' friends don't know what happened, nor have they asked me why Chris was upset. He hasn't been seen around school and I'm convinced he's skipping just so he doesn't have to see me. He's waiting for our school year to be over so he never has to see me again. I just know it.
Today was Friday and do you know what that means? It means our senior prom was today. The one big event I didn't even want to go to until Chris convinced me I should. To be honest? I genuinely was excited about going to prom with him that I planned to actually make an effort with my appearance. I even chopped off the mullet and styled my hair! It looks a lot nicer now as opposed to the mess that was my mullet. Even though I knew Chris wouldn't be there to see it, I still did it anyway. I don't even know why I changed up my appearance, let alone why I'm still going to prom with my friends. It was all for him and he isn't here to see it.
"Hey dude! We're outside waiting for you! Are you ready?" The sound of Craig's voice calling for him from the bottom of the stairs snapped David out of his self loathing. He was so focused on his internal monologue that he didn't realise that he had been sitting on his bed for at least an hour by now.
"Just a second!" David yelled back his response at Craig, his voice bellowed throughout the house like an earthquake from his deep masculine vocals.
David stood up off his bed and stepped towards his mirror to inspect himself. He was fully dressed in his suit, admiring the navy blue and yellow that Chris said looked good on him. He grabbed a comb from his desk and leaned down to gently brush his hair and style the pieces together in the same motion to ensure it looked great. Now that he has seen himself without the mullet, he felt like this hairstyle suited him more as a small smile appeared on his face. Satisfied with how he looked, David stuffed his phone and wallet into his pockets and strolled out of his bedroom to carefully walk down the stairs in his dress shoes.
"Damn, dude. Looking pretty good."
"Thanks. How's your arm?" David pointed at the purple cast that was slightly visible under the sleeve of his blazer.
"It's fine, hurts every now and then but the pain isn't as bad as it was. Now come on! The boys are waiting for us."
Craig gave David a pat on the back to encourage him to move as the boys started to leave towards the door. Just as David grabbed onto the door knob, his mother called out to the two while rushing down the stairs.
"Oh boys! Wait!" The two turned around and stepped away from the door to see Darcy holding onto a camera. Damnit, just when I thought we could escape before she tried taking pictures.
"Yes ma?"
"I haven't gotten a picture of you two yet! Come on, strike a pose!"
David sighed and reluctantly wrapped an arm around his best friend while he placed a hand on his hip. Craig returned the gesture and they both flashed their biggest smiles as Darcy snapped a few pictures with her camera. Satisfied with the nice pictures she had, she gave the boys some creative freedom and ordered them to do a funny pose that she could post online. David saw this as a challenge and, being the little rascal that he was, he waited for his mother to snap another picture before he grabbed both sides of Craig's face and planted a kiss right on his lips. After a brief second of contact, Craig frantically pried himself from the boy and gasped for breath while David let out a hearty laugh.
"Dude!" Craig wiped his mouth with the edge of his sleeve as David continued to giggle at his antics. "Darcy, please don't use that picture!"
"Hm... no. This one won't do at all. You look too shocked in it Craig, it isn't flattering at all." Craig let out a sigh of relief and sneakily flipped off David when Darcy wasn't looking. "We'll have to take it again. Get ready you two!"
