Monday - David's POV
"David! Chris is waiting outside!"
"Just a sec, ma!" David called out in response to his mother alerting him of his boyfriend's arrival.
Today was the day. It was finally graduation day for the seniors of Evergreen High and just like he promised, today he would move out of his home and move in with Chris. It was bittersweet, it truly was. Officially leaving the home he grew up in, even if he was still living in the same city, it was still a sad moment. He spent the entirety of yesterday crying with his family over how much they would miss each other and how the house wouldn't be the same without him around.
Even though David was saddened by the thought of not seeing his mother or sister every day, he still eagerly packed a suitcase for his clothes and bags with other essentials before he departed. The jock did a final check of his belongings to ensure that he wasn't forgetting anything before he picked up his bags and marched towards the door to leave his bedroom. He took one final glance at his bedroom, somberly smiling at how empty it looked now apart from the furniture and the photos and trophies that covered his walls. He gave his room one final look, appreciating the memories that came with it and making a mental note to return one day whenever he visited. But for now, this was just his childhood bedroom. Nothing more.
David closed the door to his bedroom and hopped down the stairs, ensuring that he had an iron grasp on the bags and suitcases to prevent himself from dropping something or falling down the stairs. He breathed a sigh of relief once both of his feet were planted on the wooden floors, knowing he was now safe from slipping on the stairs.
"Oh, there you are. Honey, you should have asked for help!" Darcy shook her head and tutted at the boy from being reckless.
"I'm a strong boy, ma. I can manage." David squatted and placed the suitcases down on the floor so he could slip the strap of the duffle bag over his head and readjust his grip on the other bags.
Darcy looked at her son holding the bags full of his clothes and other essentials as he prepared to leave the nest. As much as she fought against it, she couldn't help but get teary eyed at the sight as she wiped her eye and sniffled. This didn't go unnoticed by David who softly smiled at his mother and placed the two bags in his hands on the floor to give her a well needed hug.
"I know I know. It's just... it's such a big thing. My little boy is finally growing up."
"We're still gonna visit, remember? I'm not moving out of the state just yet."
"Yet?!" Darcy let out a sound of anguish that was followed by a fake sob, making the boy crack a smile.
"Mom... can I ask you something?" Before David would depart, there was something he wanted to know. His mom has always been so cool about his relationship with Chris, but she never once spoke about his sexuality. It's something that has always been on his mind.
"You were always so... chill... about Chris being my boyfriend. I don't know, but I thought it would be a bigger deal since I've never come out to you. Did you know before?"
"That you were gay?" The boy couldn't help but choke on his own saliva from how nonchalant his mother was about it. "I've known for a while, yes. Your father told me about the... uhm... videos on your computer. Since it was obvious that you never really connected with your girlfriends, I pieced things together."
"Oh."
The sound of a car honking demanded the pair's attention to the front door that they assumed was caused by Chris. The boy gave his mother a final hug goodbye before he picked up his bags and penguin walked out of the house, trying to hold onto the two bags and suitcases. David stepped through the doors and when Darcy closed the door behind him, he let out a sigh as he entered a new stage in his life.
