Friday - David's POV
David's eyes slowly pried themselves open to a soft blue glow that shined through his curtains. He struggled to fight the urge to drift back to sleep as his eyes slowly closed over, occasionally flying open only to close again. It would only take a few seconds to succumb to his slumber until his phone vibrated from a notification. A groan slipped past David's lips as he lazily opened his eyes and reached over to his nightstand to grab his phone to see a message from Craig.
Dickhead: Wake up queerdo
That's a nickname he's never heard before. Only Craig was smart enough to combine queer and weirdo together into the ultimate teasing nickname for his newly gay friend. He knew that if he didn't respond to Craig and get dressed for the fair, Craig would most likely show up at his door demanding for David to wake up. Knowing his fate had been sealed, David rolled off his side and sat on the edge of his bed to reflect on life for a moment before he got up and lumbered towards the bathroom for a shower.
David felt completely refreshed and awake after the shower as he stepped back into the bedroom while drying his hair with a towel. After drying his whole body, he stood in the middle of his bedroom to stretch his limbs before fishing into his closet for his uniform. He slipped on a pair of navy blue briefs and, taking a quick moment to check himself out in the mirror, put on his uniform and went downstairs.
As soon as he reached the bottom of the stairs, David rushed into the kitchen to raid the cabinets for some quick breakfast before Craig arrived to drive the two to the fair. Completely forgetting that it was the crack of dawn, David wasn't quiet in his search for food which brought his mother downstairs wondering if they were being robbed.
"Honestly David, we're trying to sleep." Darcy waved her son away and lumbered over to the couch where she collapsed onto.
"Sorry ma. I'm just trying to find something quick to eat before I head out to the fair."
"I already packed you something. There should be some containers on the table."
David stopped his ransacking and made his way towards the table to see two tubs of food with a note on them that read "for David" with a smiley face on it. He stuffed the food into his bag and walked over to the couch to give his mother a kiss on the head.
"Thanks mom. Will you and dad be there for the fair? There should be some scouts there for football and I think dad would like to meet them."
"Sorry honey, your father won't be able to make it. He's stuck finishing a presentation for the office, but me Jess and I will be there. If you want I can speak to them?"
The smile faded off of David's face from the news as he let out a quiet sigh of disappointment and walked towards the door.
"It's alright mom, maybe another time. Thanks for the breakfast." David stepped out of the house and slowly closed the door behind him to prevent noise from being made. The look of disappointment slowly turned into that of anger for his father's absence until the sound of a car honking snapped him out of his brooding to see Craig's car parked outside. He slung his bag over his shoulder and hopped down the steps and towards the car where he entered into the passenger side.
"Took you long enough. Did you get my message?"
"Yes, thanks queerdo."
"Smart right? It's queer and weirdo put together." Craig started the car and pulled away from the Reid home to drive down the road and towards the school.
"No, it's really dumb. If anyone's a queerdo then it's you." David unzipped his bag and opened one of the containers to take out an apple that he started snacking on.
