Chapter 8

Annabeth

Wednesday went by quick and soon it 4:30 on Thursday. Volleyball tryouts. There were only 3 spots on the team open. So out of the 12 girls here today I hope I get one of them. 

"Hey guys! My name's Bailey, team captain of the volleyball team. Out of the 12 of you, only the 3 of you will be joining the team. So show us what you got! Good luck!" She had one of those attitudes of a cheerleader. Smily and cheerful. She divided us into 2 teams to play. Some people stayed on the side, 'cause only 4 people can play. 

30 minutes went by quick. And boy can I say I had some competition, though some girls had tempers. So probably not volleyball material. And maybe their weakness is my advantage.

"All right girls. Great work! You all are very talented but sadly only the 3 of you girls will join our team. On Monday we will send the results! Good luck and good bye!" she said and everyone started leaving. As soon as I left the building my phone rang. 

Percy. 

I answered. "Hey what's up." 

"Soooooo." 

"Sooooo what?"

"How'd you do? Try outs are done right now. Did you get in?" he asked. I can tell he was happy.

"How do you know?" 

"I read the fliers they put around school."

"You read something?" I ask chuckling.

"Haha very funny. Now answer the question did you or did you not get in?" 

"Slow your role seaweed brain. I don't know, they're sending the results on Monday." I say "And besides it's a really small chance I'll get in. There was some real competition in there."

"But I'm still rooting for you." 

I smile. "Thanks seaweed brain. I got to go. See ya later." 

"Bye." and he hangs up. I got an uber and got home. 

"So kiddo how was try-outs?" my dad asked.

"It was good." I respond.

He waves his hands indicating I should say something more than just 'good.' 

"I mean volleyball is my passion and I'm good but I there was some real competition in there. The spot isn't a guarantee but maybe." I say smiling.

"At least you believe in yourself." he kissed the top of my head and I went upstairs, showered changed and just lay in my bed in silence. Well until someone knocked on the door. 

I sat up as I said "Come in."

Bobby opened the door and sat on the edge of my bed.

"Hey bud how are you?" 

"Good thanks."

"Where were you guys?" I ask him. "Oh mom took us for some ice cream."

"Did do you bring me some?" 

"No, because it would've melted duh."
"Well I was kinda hoping you would've said 'we did but now it's ice cream soup.'" 

"Forget about the ice cream, how was try-outs? Did you get in?" he asked me with  big smile on his face."I don't know but I will know on Monday."

"Okay. I hope you do get in." he says and I hug him. "Thanks Bobby." He grins and leaves leaving the room all to myself again. 

Time skip

It was already Monday. Bailey said she would send the results around lunch time. Well it was lunch time. All of my friends were breathing on my neck, I kept refreshing my email and soon it came.

"Holy shit it came! I can't do it. Percy you do it." I give it to him and then take it back. "No wait never mind. Piper you do it." I handed her the phone and then took it back again. "No wait. I'll do it." I close my eyes as I hesitantly open the email. I peek and I got in!! I put on a sad face and my  friends smiling faces quickly faded and their faces were now filled with sadness.

"You didn't get in?" Piper asked. I smiled. "Nope! I got in!" all of their faces turned back into smiles and they cheered for me. 

"I knew you could do it!" Percy said as he hugged me. My cheeks turned a little red but it didn't mean anything. 

And for the rest of the day I was really happy and cheerful. When I got home the lights were off until they turned on and my family yelled. "Surprise!" 

"What's this for?" I ask looking at the banner that said 'Congrats!'

"Well you did make the team!" Bobby said.

"How'd you know?" I say smiling.

"Actually we didn't mom and dad took a risk of doing all of this. If you didn't make the team then that would be bad." Matt says and I chuckle and my eyes find a chocolate cake on the counter.

"You guys made a cake?" i say walking over to the beautiful dessert.

"Yup it's homemade. I was thinking of making one that said 'Good job you did it!" and one that said 'I'm sorry at least you tried. But the I said 'hey this is Annabeth we're talking about. Of course she's going to make it.'" Helen said side hugging me.

"Thanks guys. Now are we going to eat this cake or what?" I say.

"After dinner." Helen said. Me, Bobby and Matthew groan. We had dinner and straight afterwards we had the cake. And it was delicious. 

I brushed my teeth and opened up a book to read myself to sleep.
