[ Chapter 27 ]

Closing the door behind him, the door closed with a thud, closing off his light to the outside world. Leaving Y/n alone in this home that was far colder than he had remembered. No, he wasn't alone, but it certainly felt that way. Standing still, unmoving, Y/n surveyed his surroundings. Overlooking everything in front of him.

He was a stranger, a stranger in a home he knew quite well. It was an uncomfortable feeling, becoming an outsider to a place you called home. The sick feeling in his stomach certainly didn't help, dread, coupled with the cold air that he could feel on his face, all helped in making him even more nervous. Inhaling and taking a deep breath, the knight began to walk.

Even if the light from outside shone brightly, the inside of the home was dark, dim as if the whole inside was covered in shadows. His golden eyes seemed to have a glow in them as he looked around. Being careful to not make a sound, gently walking, moving at a snail's pace. Making him feel like an intruder, an invader.

Continuing to walk, he began to pick up on several things. This home hadn't been cleaned in some time, he wasn't sure for how long, but the dust surrounding the walls, tables, and floor, was enough to give him an idea. Along with this, he began to notice that the farther he ventured into the home, the more that feeling in his chest grew as if he was being directed in a certain direction.

Morgan's home was large to keep it simple, making Y/n's job of finding her that much harder. Checking every room for her, walking around the home in search of her, his mind wandered, thinking of the past, the time he had shared with the woman. Their talks, his visits, all those warm, loving memories seemed only to exist in hopes of bothering him now, hoping to shift his heart in one direction. Making him think of the present, the situation he was currently in. What he'd have to do, he wasn't even sure he could, no, he knew he couldn't. Making the future, what was to come, all the more daunting.

Left alone with his thoughts, no longer by the side of Sif, Y/n felt alone. Without the support of his friend, or even himself, he was at a crossroads.

Maybe, maybe I should have listened to ya...turn back.

But, I can't do that now, I've ventured too far... Y/n thought, a bitter feeling sprouting.

He didn't blame her, not anymore, as once he entered the home. Y/n felt like he finally understood why Sif kept her distance from Morgan. That dark, ebony black feeling had hit him in droves, causing him only fear. Yet, that just messed with the man more, as he couldn't see her in such a light, it felt wrong. The woman who was once one of the two lights in his life seemed to flicker and threaten to go out. Only building to the dread that surrounded him, yet it was all hidden behind his hardened face, a serious look in his eyes. He hid what he felt, doing his best to ignore the thoughts that raced through his mind.

I need to make sure the kids aren't here, and if they're... Y/n thought, stopping at the stairs that led up to the second story of the home. That's where the bedrooms were, and where a couple of children could possibly be. He wasn't sure what would happen if he found Morgan, but something told him that if her children were here, they shouldn't see it. Not at least until it's all been resolved.

Beginning to walk up the steps, his metal boots tapped against the wooden stairs, as his weight and step pressed against the wood. He couldn't waste time, he couldn't take his time as he wanted, so... Shaking his head, Y/n continued up the steps, moving at a quicker pace as he reached the upper floors. Coming to a stop, Y/n recognized the area, as he and Morgan would spend most of their time up here, the balcony was a nice view after all... Looking around, he spotted where he needed to go, taking a breath and exhaling, the man continued on. Making his way down the hall where the bedrooms were located, in search of Gawain's siblings.
