neon (2021)

NEON is the debut japanese single from cube entertainment female soloist, ryun, released on may 4, 2021.

this release came about during ryun's hiatus in 2019, as cube entertainment was receiving criticism for her hiatus, and ryun was on the verge of leaving the company. stay tonight and play were songs planned to be released in 2020, and a japanese release was added on to appease fans and ryun. neon wasn't a priority release for cube entertainment, this resulting in the promotion for the debut to be lackluster and be pushed back until mid 2021. ryun was responsible for the concept, writing, production, choreography, and music video. she received aid from soyeon on the lyrics. despite the lack of promotion or care for the release by cube, the song charted at #1 on the oricon music charts. reception from japanese fans and critics were very positive online, and the city pop sound was an unexpected but much appreciated change from her korean releases. she would preform a japanese concert for the song titled, ryun presents "neon" in japan.
