the you, clouds, rain singer participated in a photo shoot and interview (click here to view the full interview) with esquire korea earlier this month.

in the interview, the singer was questioned on a variety of topics. the most notable of which were on the loss of her mother, who passed in 2014 while she was still a trainee, her relationships and the rumors surrounding them, and most importantly, her music!

when questioned about how her mother's death impacted her and how she dealt, she heartbreakingly explained:

"i don't really know how to describe it. my mother died when i was seventeen–years-old. it was a really hard time, i took things really badly for a really long time. i didn't think i would ever be okay again but looking back i was luckier than other people in my situation would have been.

i remember after the funeral i just cried and cried and cried; i cried so much my dad kept bringing me glasses of water because he thought i would die of dehydration. he and my brother were really my strength during that time. they took care of me when i couldn't take care of myself. i wish i could have been a better support for them, my dad lost his wife and my brother lost his mother too; that's something i really regret.

i think it was the birth of my nephew that really got me out of those feelings. he and my sister-in-law came at a time when we really needed new life. i was able to start my training again after that year. the pain never really goes away; i have to live in a world without my mama, it hurts worse some days than others."

the question of her relationships and rumors about them was brought up and she explained:

"i won't lie that i haven't ever been in a relationship. my company has never had a [dating] ban, so i did have a boyfriend as a trainee. he helped me through my mom's death and i cared for him deeply. we broke up though.
