09 - Ethan Lycan [Part One]

"So I have good news, and bad." the woman announces the minute her hands feel Isabelle's stomach. "Good news is, the twins can be born into this world, granted the male may spend some time in the NICU until he can go home but the female should be able to go home sooner."

"And the bad news?" Astoria whispers.

"The bad news is, well, I'd rather show you." the woman replies and moves to draw up an ultrasound of the unborn twins. "You see the male twin not moving around as much as the female?"

"Is he the one on the left or the right?"

"Left. The one moving around more is the female." the woman states. "With your permission, I'd like to get an echo for the male twin."

"As Isabelle's next of kin, it's your decision." Tristan tells Astoria.

Her eyes glance up at the ultrasound and she numbly nods her head. "So let me get this straight, the ultrasound detected something wrong with Ethan's heart? And you want my consent to do an echo on him?"

"Yes, it would appear there's an abnormality with his heart. It could a life-threatening heart defect or maybe he's not getting enough oxygen and therefore his heart can't pump blood to the rest of his body. It could also be something that's genetic, the echo would help tell us what." Tristan explains.

Astoria hums. "Okay." she mumbles. "Do the echo, you have my consent."

Aphmau's feet halt in their tracks. Travis and Katelyn come to a screeching halt behind her, the former shoving his last hot dog into his mouth.

"Ah, that was a good hot dog." he smiles. "It's a bummer we're heading back home."

"Home?" Aphmau whips her body around. "Who said we're going home? Aaron and Zane are missing!"

"Come on, Aph. You've got to be joking. Aaron and Zane would never go missing." Katelyn says. "Right?"

"But they did."

"And what proof do you have, Aph?"

"The kind that believes! My boyfriend and my best friend are nowhere to be seen and no tracks to follow them!"

"Who said we were missing?" Aaron butts in. Zane and Nana walking behind him, holding hands and beaming with pure bliss.

The petite human turns around again and beams in happiness. She races forward and engulfs Aaron in a well-deserved hug.

"Aaron! Where were you and Zane?" she whispers.

Her taller boyfriend releases her from their hug and chuckles. "Zane needed something, so he asked if I wanted to go with him."

"Oh. Zane needed something? I could've gone with you!"

Zane and Aaron both share an expression. The middle Ro'Meave snorts and looks a bit on the panicking side.

"N..no! Absolutely not, Aph! I can spend a day with Aaron and not have to worry about you." he retorts.

"You'd get lost in a buffet of cupcakes before you'd willingly spend a day with Aaron." Aph replies.

"Shut up! I would not!" Zane fires back.

"Aphmau~Senpai is right, Zane~Senpai. Kawaii~Chan agrees with her!" Nana smiles big at Zane.

Zane huffs and tilts his head to face Nana. "I thought I asked you to stop talking in 3rd person. You then told me you wouldn't do so often."

Nana sighs. "Sorry, force of habit." she murmurs.
