First Love

Drawing down the last note, I placed my pencil down and sighed, "finally, done....."

Looking at the pages of sheet music I had composed over the last week, I smiled with satisfaction. I was finally done the first draft.

Picking up my phone, I scrolled to Reiji's name, and called him. After only 2 rings, he picked up, and his eager voice answered brightly, "hello~?"

"Reiji, I finished the first draft for your song. Do you want to meet up so you can hear it?" I asked.

I practically heard his excitement through the phone, when he replied excitedly, "yes yes yes~ just come to our dorm, and I'll meet you there!!"

"Your dorm? Right now?" I repeated, caught off-guard. I thought he wouldn't have anytime today, seeing their busy schedules.

"Yeah, I can be there in about a hour. In the meantime, why don't you just upload the music file onto my computer, so we can edit it later?" Reiji requested.

"Alright, that sounds good," I agreed, "is your computer unlocked?"

"Um....I have a guest account - just use that one," Reiji replied.

"Okay. I'll see you then?" I asked.

"Yep!" he replied, and hung up.

When I arrived at the dorm, Ranmaru and Ai were home. Ranmaru silently answered the door, and let me in. He then retreated back into his own room quietly, after he mumbled a welcome to me.

I awkwardly stood beside Ai for a couple of minutes, as he went back to typing something on his computer in the living room.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, not looking up from his rapid typing.

"Reiji and I have agreed to meet up to edit the song I composed for him," I answered.

"So you have started composing the songs?" he inquired.

I nodded, then realized he wasn't even looking at me, "yes."

"That's good. Do you know where Reiji's room is?" he asked.

"Yes," I repeated.

After a couple beats of silence, he finally looked up at me, "then what are you still standing here for?"

"Ah, right," I muttered. Hastily bowing to him, I hurried upstairs.

Once I reached the top of the stairs, I put my hands on my cheek, feeling their heat. Why did I always have to be so awkward around him?!

Shaking it off, I hurried into Reiji's room.

I quickly spotted his laptop lying in the middle of his desk, and quickly started it up. Within 10 minutes, I had already transferred the music onto his music-editing software, and started to play it. The truth was, I wrote the song thinking about Reiji's cheerful and playful personality, and believed that it would reflect him well in the end.

Closing the laptop absently, I glanced around his room. It was a pretty basic room, with a poster of Quartet Night. There was a keyboard near the corner, and a large desk that was surprisingly pretty neat. Not knowing what else to do at the moment, I opened his laptop back up again.

He had his lock screen set up as a slideshow, and I smiled, seeing the pictures he took with people. There were certainly lots of people in the photos, and some of them even looked quite old. I assumed these photos were ordered according to time.

Staring at the passing pictures, I almost missed it when it appeared.

But I did a double-take, and realized exactly what I was looking at.

Scrambling for my phone, I took a picture of that picture before it moved onto the next. Completely ignoring the laptop now, I stared at the picture I just took on my phone.

It was Reiji when I assumed he was in about grade 3. He looked really young, and pretty different from now. But that wasn't what caught my attention.

It was the person beside him.

They weren't at school - it looked like a playdate of some sort. There was a park in the background......and I knew exactly where that park was.

"Oh my gosh," I whispered, zooming in on that other person.

It was Aine.

Kisaragi Aine. The boy I had sat beside all through elementary school, before I started to go to idol school. My childhood friend - and ultimately my first love.

And he was standing in this picture, next to Reiji.

How did Reiji even know him? I was sure he didn't go to the same school that we did.

Upon second look, I also realized Ai actually would be a pretty realistic representation of what Aine would've looked like now. In fact, if I didn't know Aine so well enough that I could define his personal features and recognize him from anywhere, I would've assumed they were twins.

The opening of the door made me drop my phone, and I turned around with wide eyes.

Reiji stared back at me, startled, "gomen, I forgot that you were in here. I should've knocked."

"Ah, it's alright," I mumbled, picking up my phone.

"Did you already enter it onto the laptop?" he questioned, sitting down on his bed.

I nodded, and handed him the laptop silently.

He peered at me, "are you okay, Akiko? It's not like you to be like this."

"Ah- I'm fine. Just still a bit surprised, that's all," I quickly responded.

As he opened the file and started listening to the song happily, I stared at him.

I didn't dare ask him if he knew what happened to Aine. Being such a cheerful person himself, I had no idea what I would do if I was the reason he found out about him. They also seemed pretty close in the pictures.

A sudden though hit me: did Aine ever talk about me to him?

Whatever the answers were, I knew I wouldn't look at Reiji the same way again.

Thanks for waiting so patiently for this update!! It took me a while to plan out what would happen. But now that you know, what do you think Akiko's going to do? Their pasts are starting to become entangled now :P
