"Are you serious? QUARTET NIGHT?" Akira-chan shrieked, leaning over the glass table. Amayo-chan, sitting on the other side of Akira-chan, also looked rather surprised (and jealous, might I add).
"Why do you always get the good things?" Amayo-chan huffed, taking a sip of her tea, "you are always so lucky." She played with the tea cup handle, and sighed. The chatters of all the people around us filled the silence between us, as I thought of how to reply to that.
This was a typical cafe, one of the only ones that could be found around here. Many people, especially in the afternoon, would gather around this cafe and just chat about their day, and catch up. This cafe in particular was decorated to look old-fashioned and yet welcoming at the same time, and it was one that the three of us had often went to back when we were in the academy, during the weekends when we seldom had free time.
"Well, I'm not that lucky. If you really think about it, I can only meet with one idol group for basically my whole career untill they or I retire, or something doesn't work out. Meanwhile, you two being idols can go all over the entertainment industry and meet and work with so many different, popular idols that I can only dream of meeting," I replied carefully, choosing my words slowly.
Akira-chan and Amayo-chan thought about this for a while, before realizing that I was somewhat right. Thank goodness they weren't jealous of me anymore. I couldn't stand it when my friends would tell me how smart I was, or how I managed time so well, resulting in them whining and reflecting on how horrible they themselves were.
"But Akiko, you have to make sure to enjoy this, okay?" Akira-chan, the more empathetic of the two said to me, leaning forward.
"Of course I will. I'm not going to let this opportunity slip past," I agreed, and Amayo-chan nodded in agreement. Perhaps she was feeling a bit guilty that she didn't think about my new job as an amazing opportunity. She was probably being too jealous to notice, I assumed. But I didn't mind that. That was the way Amayo-chan always acted, and we got used to it eventually.
"You have a job secured for you, which must be a good feeling ne?" Amayo-chan asked after a while, "I hear it's really hard to find a job when you're fresh out of school. You're not experienced, which means that nobody knows if you're actually good or not. There's lots of people that can sweet talk producers, but I don't think we're one of them."
"I'm sure that if your future job depended on it, you two would be able to sweet talk plenty of people. Even better than Calcio-chan and her group," I reassured both of them. They burst out laughing. It was a common fact that Calcio-chan and her group were the biggest flirts in the whole school. Which wouldn't exactly help them in the future, as if they were really trying to become idols, they weren't allowed to fall in love.
"When will you start?" Akira-chan inquired, tapping on her coffee cup. Her cup was the only one that was empty, since she was the only one that actually adored coffee. The rest of us would only drink it if we were really tired. It wasn't exactly what we considered as a "casual" drink.
"Well, I think I have to get to know them first. Mr. Saotome claims that I would be able to compose better songs if I knew the members better, and what their personalities are like. I'm guessing that I will have to eventually not only compose group songs, but individual songs as well. Mr. Saotome says that's the way I can compose the best songs possible," I repeated, recalling his words the other day.
"As in, you as an individual?" Amayo-chan clarified. I nodded.
"That must mean he also takes note of every single individual student, and their personal strengths , weaknesses, and how they can do the bet job they possibly could," Amayo-chan thought out loud.
