"Smile!" Kotobuki-senpai crowed, pointing his old-fashioned camera towards us for what seemed like the 50th time. He seemed to really like taking pictures.
"Why must we listen to you?" Camus-senpai asked rather grumpily. He had struck me as the type of person who didn't like to take photos. I wasn't mistaken.
"Are we almost there?" Kurosaki-senpai grumbled, arms crossed.
We had been sitting in the limo for what seemed like forever. Even though there was a T.V., no one seemed to be interested in turning it on, and I was quite frankly too scared to ask. Just to think, that I was actually with the members of Quartet Night!
"We will arrive in exactly 47 minutes and 13 seconds," Mikaze-senpai replied in a monotone voice. He hadn't even looked up once from his book that he had brought and opened the second this car ride had started. It seemed very interesting to him, though judging by the sheer size of the book and all the tiny words in them, it wouldn't be exactly as interesting to me.
"That's so long. Why are we going so far?" Kurosaki-senpai replied dejectedly.
"So that we can enjoy our time out in the wild! No one will be there to bother us, and we can go hiking and meet all the animals!" Kotobuki-senpai replied excitedly.
His positive energy seemed to be rubbing off none of his other memebers, for they just rolled their eyes and looked away from him.
"Have you gone hiking before?" I asked tentativily, to save myself from the awkward silence that had befallen. Everyone seemed to be content to stare out the window, but I hated to do that. It made me dizzy.
"When I was little, I used to wander outside all the time. I even became friends with some of the animals that I had met," Kotobuki-senpai replied cheerfully.
"So you loved nature ever since you were a child? Most children love to play outside, right?" I asked. I immediately knew that what I said didn't sound normal, for the three other members instantly turned to look at me with a confused/weirded out expression. Even Mikaze-senpai looked up from his book.
"You sound like you were never a child before. Didn't you use to go outside and play?" Kotobuki-senpai asked puzzledly.
Quickly realizing that I had said too much, I nodded quickly, "of course I did. I was just making sure."
Kurosaki-senpai and Camus-senpai went back to staring outside, disinterested. Kotobuki-senpai's gaze remained on me for a few more seconds, before shrugging and going back to taking pictures. Only Mikaze-senpai continued to stare at me. It was unnerving, as I had no idea what he was thinking about. His eyes gave away nothing, and they sent a chill down my spine.
"Is something wrong?" I asked politely, trying not to sound nervous.
Mikaze-senpai remained silent, but shook his head slowly. He turned his attention back to his book, and I silently let out a breath of relief.
* * *
A finger tapped me lightly on the shoulder, jolting me awake. I quickly opened my eyes, and blinked at the sunlight streaming in. Even though it looked like the mid-afternoon, the sun was still shining as brightly as ever.
"Hey Sayaka-chan~ we're here!" Kotobuki-senpai cheerfully announced. He was standing outside, leaning in. I yawned, and nodded at him.
"Alright, I'll be out in a second," I mumbled. Kotobuki-senpai flashed me a smile before disappearing outside.
I stretched my legs, and slowly climbed out of the car. We must've arrived at our camping site. I had dozed off soon after watching Mikaze-senpai reading his book, and was still feeling pretty tired.
As soon as I stepped out, the fresh air greeted me. It was so different from the air I would breathe in every day back home, and I enjoyed it greatly. It was such a nice change.
The first thing I heard were birds chirping. It was such a contrast compared to the usual sound of cars zooming by and people's voices lost amoung the noise in the city. Trees seemed to tower over me and they had formed a huge circle around the clearing where I stood. The grass seemeed lush and was this rich green color. I fought the urge to just lie down on the grass and go to sleep there. It seemed like such a perfect setting - almost like a place from a story.
"Have you ever been camping before?" Kotobuki-senpai's voice crept up behind me. I turned around, and smiled.
"No, I haven't. But it's such a pity that I missed out, if camping was always as beautiful as this," I replied wistfully.
"I'm sorry if this sounds a bit personal, but aren't you rich? Your house is huge, and your parents seem to have really important jobs," Kotobuki-senpai questioned, "so why is it that you haven't gone camping before?"
"My parents are often too busy to do these kinds of activities," I shrugged off. Kotobuki-senpai didn't reply, seeming to get my vibe.
"Wwwwwwwwwwwelcome~" boomed the voice of Mr. Saotome. He twirled down the stairs, and stopped in front of us four.
"This place is beautiful," Mikaze-senpai observed calmly. He looked around, but when his eyes met mine I fought back a shiver. It almost felt like he was....almost absorbing something.
"You all will gooooooooooo canoeing!!!" Mr. Saotome suddenly announced out of nowhere. We all looked at him with disbelief.
"What?" I finally managed to stutter.
""Caneoing. Your boat is already waiting for you," Mr. Saotome repeated with a huge smile on his face.
"I hate water," Camus-senpai mumbled.
"Why do we have to do thing together?" Ranmaru-senpai growled.
"It'll be so much fun!" Kotobuki-senpai exclaimed, already taking out his camera again.
"Water.....I don't think I should be near water...." Mikaze-senpai mumbled, as if asking himself.
I sighed, and looked at the group of people I was composing for.
They sure were really different from each other.
Boy, was this going to be a long canoe ride.
