"C'mon, Y/n, smile!" Bakugou insisted, hands reaching out and stretching your cheeks into a forceful and ugly grin.

"I hunt wont tuh" you muffled, trying to push them away while shaking your head.

"Hi, guys!" Midoriya exclaimed while running out of his apartment.

"Hi, Midoriya."

"C'mon, Y/n! Call me Izuku already!"

You crossed your arms at them and looked at the ground, causing them to panic.

"You don't have to! Sorry for making you uncomfortable..." He sweatdropped. "But uhm--"

"Izuku!" Inko waved him over and smiled at you. "Say goodbye to your friends, sweetie!"

The two of you turned to him in confusion.

"Where are you going, Midoriya?" You asked.

"Oh..." he trailed off and looked at his mom. "Well-- mama is taking me to the doctor to check my quirk."

"Well then.. good luck." You smiled and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Midoriya flared red and smiled bashfully.

"Oh bleck-- get a room." Bakugou deadpanned before pushing him towards Inko. "Go go go! Get your quirk, dummy!"

"All right! Bye, Kacchan! Bye, Y/n!!" He waved while getting into the car after his mom.

"Bye Midoriya..." You muttered and watched them leave.

...

"So what do we do now?" Bakugou asked while walking back towards you.

"Shouldn't we play like we always do? Midoriya's gonna be back soon I think." You suggested.

"Hey, have you been to the doctors?" He deadpanned, "You have to wait forever, it's so boring!"

You fiddled with your sleeve and shrugged.

"I haven't been..." He missed the sentence which honestly was a relief. 'I shouldn't tell them anything.'

"Hey! I made some friends at the park yesterday!" He chimed happily while running in the direction of the playground.

"How do you know that's they're gonna be there?" You asked while following him.

"Cause I told them. Your quirk is cool so they'll like it!"

You nodded nervously, slowing in the slightest bit but still being able to keep up.

"Oh! Look, they're here!" He exclaimed and began waving to catch their attention. "Hey, guys!"

"Hey..." They trailed off at the sight of you to which Bakugou rolled his eyes.

"She's my friend." He glared. "Don't be mean to her cause she's a girl. But her quirk is really cool, see?"

You jumped, beginning to back away.

"U-Uhm... I dunno... my quirk--"

"C'mon, Y/n! It probably only hurts the first time! That's how it works with physical quirks if they aren't born with it!" Bakugou exclaimed.

You crossed your arms.
"I don't know how to shift..."

"How did it happen before?" One of the kids asked.

"I don't know... it just happened.."

"Yeah! There were these mean bullies that tried to kick us out and that's when it happened! I bet she can beat up villains as the number three hero when we're older!" He said proudly.

"Eh? How is she gonna become number three if she can't use her quirk?" Another asked.

"Hey! Don't insult her like that! You don't know how it works!" Bakugou scolded.

"I-I can try to do it..." You said hopefully. "What should it be?"

"A dog!"

"A bat!!"

"A bird!"

"Shut up! I bet she was asking me!" Bakugou demanded then turned to you. "Turn into... a dragon!"

"Okay..." You thought about the mental picture of a dragon, every detail down to the scales and their texture.

A black mist circled around your previous body, making the boys panic and wonder if it was a villain.

But when it finally cleared, they were relieved and also excited at th--

"Dragon! So cool!!" Bakugou exclaimed, dancing around you with the happiest grin he's ever made. "I told you she's cool!! I bet Izuku's quirk is gonna be just as cool!"

A gentle rumble came from your chest, a few moments later the fog appeared again and you were back to normal.

"It doesn't last long for now, but we're gonna be the best heroes and have super cool powers! We better start training!!" Bakugou said enthusiastically.

"It didn't hurt..." You muttered, beginning to smile. Bakugou gasped.

"Y/n!!" You jumped, looking up at him with a blank expression. "Dang it... she's so cute when she smiles! You should see!"

Your flustered expression replaced the former one.
"!"
You perked up while turning around, a strange feeling of dread overtaking you. Another feeling of sadness joined, though it was much smaller than the first.

"Eh? Are you okay Y/n?" Bakugou asked worriedly.

"Something's wrong..." Now they were all worried.

"What do you mean? How do you know?" One of them asked.

"I don't know what it is but..." You gulped, turning around once again. "I'm scared..."

"You..?" Bakugou asked in disbelief. "But you're..." He looked scared as well. "It must be bad then."

"Y/n!" You jumped, looking behind the boys at your mom. "Come home, lunch is ready."

"Bye guys." You waved at them and ran towards her, quickly taking her hand while looking around the area.

"What?" She asked, looking at you frightened expression.

"Mama, I'm scared." M/n glanced around the area as well. "There's something wrong..."

"Home. Now." She demanded, pointing in the direction of your apartment.

"W-Why--"

"Do what I said!"

The volume of her voice surprised you, but the feeling left as soon as it came.

You ran back to the house and into your room, quickly booking it towards the closet and locking the door.

"Mama... what's happening..?"

---

M/n didn't return that day, but Mrs. Midoriya did with her son.

"Hi, Y/n!" She greeted, a fake enthusiasm in her voice. "Your mom asked me to come over and watch you, okay? She's going to be back tomorrow."

You nodded and looked at Midoriya.

"Is he okay?" Her smile faltered and completely disappeared.

"I don't know..." she sighed.

"The doctor said that I won't have a quirk..." He sniffled, the mention of said news making tears spring to his eyes. "So I won't be able to become heroes with you and Kacchan..."

Mrs. Midoriya stayed quiet at that, her eyes cast down at her clenching fists.

"Izuku..." He looked up at you with wide eyes. "You can still become a hero. You can be the best hero." You smiled at him again. "Maybe even the first hero without a quirk. That would be awesome... really awesome.
"There's more to being a hero than a quirk. And even if it's difficult, me and Kacchan will be there for you."

"Y/n-chan..." He burst into sobs as you pulled him into a hug, patting his back melodically.

"We're going to become heroes together. We are."
