40. 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐬

"It's a big risk..." Todoroki muttered as you walked up next to him. "But yeah... the three of us will protect them!"

"Three against one, huh? It won't be easy."

You held onto Midoriya as he dashed around the alley, eyes following Stain to determine the animal that's appropriate and Todoroki used his ice as a wall to trap him.

Midoriya lept towards him with the goal of an attack and he dodged, making you shift into a wolf and latch onto his arm.

You shifted into a ferret to avoid the incoming sword and scrambled to the ground, leaping onto Midoriya's back once again while Todoroki sent fire and ice in Stain's direction.

'Hop!' you jumped onto the wall to observe the battle, flinching once he swiped Midoriya's leg.

Todoroki blasted fire to him and you shifted back into a wolf, army crawling under the flames and shifting back once you were with Midoriya.

"Are you two okay?!" Todoroki asked.

"Please stop... I'm... already..." Iida's voice cracked as he spoke.

"If you want us to stop, then stand up!" Todoroki shouted.

"Did he..?" Midoriya gasped a second later, going stiff just as Stain charged at you with a sword.

You grabbed him and lept out of the way, Todoroki using his ice to push the villain back.

"Look properly at what you want to be!"

"!"
'That wasn't directed to me, but...'

You shifted in a Jaguar and used the ice to get closer each time.

'Sizzling.' you thought, rolling onto the ground and hopping up to get back in there.

"From the right!" Midoriya warned.

You panted, taking a moment to catch your breath before shifting back into the Jaguar.

"Ice and flame."

'He's distracted!' you thought hopefully, hiding in the shadows as he got closer and closer.

"You're too focused on your quirk. You're being careless!"

'Too close!!' you thought, jumping up quickly and biting into Stain's arm.

The sword span around and dug through your fur, sending a searing pain through your body along with the nick of Todoroki's fire.

The both of you slid and slammed into ice and you clenched your teeth harder, getting up instantly to hold him down as best as you can.

"Reciproburst!"

"Damn..!" Stain raised his sword again and you flinched as a gust of wind blew past.

'Iida!'

"Iida!" Midoriya exclaimed.

"You got free?" Todoroki pondered. "That quirk isn't as great as I thought."

You shifted back into yourself and shot up.

"Ow!" You yelped, not looking down at your leg as you leaned on the wall.

"Todoroki, Midoriya, L/n, this has nothing to do with you, and I apologize."

"You're saying that again?" Midoriya complained.

"That's why I can't allow you to bleed anymore than this!"

You ignored the pain and hopped over, falling onto Iida and reaching up to pat his head.

"It's not use trying to be reformed for appearance's sake. A person's essence does not change so easily. You will never be anything but a fake who prioritizes his own selfish desires. You are a cancer to society that warps the idea of 'heroes'. Someone must set you straight."
