38. 𝐃𝐮𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬

You and Mirko were currently training with sound this time, trying to pinpoint sounds and any villainy.

The drawback training was cut short when the electric shock backfired and didn't stop once you returned back to normal.

"Do you hear the birds yet?" Mirko asked quietly.

"No..." You replied with the same tone.

She shot up a moment later with a slightly pained expression.

"Mirko!"

"I heard!" She replied before turning to you. "Villain in the city. C'mon!"

You nodded and got up to follow as she shot out the window.

It took a bit to get to the other heroes, but when you did, there was a fire and Nomu..

How?

"Don't interfere!" Mirko demanded with a smirk.

"How can you be so happy?" You pondered as she jumped up onto one of the buildings.

"I ain't a coward!" She replied, kicking the Nomu while grabbing the hero it was carrying.

"Mirko!"

She landed carefully and laughed.
"These things look like fun!"

"They're terrorizing the city!" One of the heroes exclaimed.

"Manual! Put out the fire!" You flinched as the intense sound of water flooded your ears.

"R-Right!" He ran towards the fire hydrant. "Why did you choose a time like this to go off somewhere, Tenya?!"

"!"
'Iida's gone? I knew he would be up to something...'

"Don't go doin' the same, Red!" Mirko shouted over the chaos.

"Right... 'mind reading'..."

You looked across the fire at Midoriya just as he did the same.

"Izuku!" You quickly rushed across and embraced him. "I thought you said you were passing?"

"Well we were but..." He looked behind at the Nomu's as one of the heroes slid in front of you.

"Hey, you're in the way! Get back!" She shouted.

"I-I'm sorry!" Midoriya said.

"We'll hold them back here! Follow the police's evacuation instructions!"

You looked at Mirko who gesture to one of the alleys.

"C'mon." You started pulling Midoriya with you but squeaked as he didn't budge. "Midoriya?"

He turned around and started running.

"!"
"Izuku!"

"Fable!" Mirko shouted as you started running after him. "Damn it..."

"Where are you going?" You asked, quickly catching up as he ran.

"Iida's going after the hero killer!"

"That much is obvious but why are we going after him?"

"Because we're still students." He replied.

...

"I know where." You said, quickly shifting into a tiger and throwing him on your back.

"No matter what you say, you are the criminal that hurt my brother!"

Midoriya jumped off your back, One For All activated as he used the walls as leverage.

You followed, shifting back and sliding down to Iida while he punched the villain.

"Bingo!"

"Are you okay?" You asked, trying not to freak out from the blood.

"L/n..? Midoriya?"

"We came to save you, Iida!" The latter exclaimed.

"Why?!"

"They talked about it on TV. That 60% of the hero killer's victims were found in places without many people."

"It's the main reason I knew you'd be here. I'm sorry about what happened..." You said, eyes trailing over to Stain. "And that we didn't come here sooner."

"Can you move? Let's get to a bigger street. We need help from the pros."

(I'm sorry but I have to say, Midoriya's voice literally shocks me every time. HOW DOES IT COME OUT OF SUCH AN ADORABLE BEAN?!)

"I'm betting that Mirko'll let me off easy. She won't even mention it if we can bring him back to the fire."

"I can't... move my body..." Iida strained. "Ever since he cut me... I think it's his quirk..."

"I'll carry you then."

"It's just as the commentators on TV guessed... so cutting is how he activates his quirk?" Midoriya then gasped. "There's someone else here!"

"I've got it!" You said, lowering your voice with a deep breath. "I just... need to think."

"No.. don't get involved! This has nothing to do with you!" Iida shouted.

"What are you saying?" Midoriya muttered.

'Could a tiger do it? A lion? Horse? It has to be fast enough to run and strong enough to carry two or more people...'

"Your friends came to save you." Stain hummed. "That's a great line, isn't it? But I have a duty to kill him. If we clash, of course, the weaker will be culled. Now, what will you do?"

You looked down at his phone as Midoriya sent a text to somebody.
'Todoroki...'

"Stop it! Run away!" Iida shouted. "I told youz didn't I?! It has nothing to do with you!"

"If you say that, then heroes can't do anything!" Midoriya shouted. "Th...There are a lot of things I'd like to say, but I'll say them later. It's like what All Might said: Meddling when you don't need to..."

"...is the essence of being a hero." You muttered with him and then looked down at your hands. "Think of an animal... think..."

'Grizzly! A grizzly bear! They can lift over 1000 pounds!'

You looked up and flinched as Midoriya tensed.

"..eh...? Izuku?"

"It wasn't powerful enough. It's not that you saw through my movements. You left my field of vision and maneuvered so that you would definitely be able to bring me down... That was what your movements were like. People who are all talk are a dime and a dozen."

'He sounds different than most villains and people... it's making me... scared. My heart's pounding and I can only tremble...' you tried to calm your heaving chest and glared. 'Midoriya-- I-Izuku.. moved even though he knew. This guy's a killer.' You finally calmed down considerably and got up, glare intense with distain. 'Protect the people who are important to you so that...'
'So that they don't have to feel how you did.'

Fun fact!: I have a fear of anything that involves injury!
At first I wanted to be a doctor/nurse or combat medic, but if watching anime makes me queezy then that definitely is NOT happening😅
